Location: North Dakota | Ok ladies and gentlemen ive got a question or two!! I'm dealing with a gentlemen out of state on purchasing a horse!! He said normally he has the money wore transferred to him! My question is this..... Is that a normal thing or should I be cautious? If it's a normal way to do a deal then is there any way to protect ourselves against fraud etc etc..... |

| My mare that I purchased sight unseen out of state we did a wire transfer. First we did a "deposit" to hold her (until we arranged shipping ect) then before she shipped we wired the remainder of the purchase price |

Location: North Dakota | Lyric that's what we are going to do just a little cautious for the obvious reasons! I wish there was some way of getting proof of sale or somthing! Or like a faxed bill of sale before I wire the money!

Definitely have a right to be cautious, see if you can write up a basic contract for sale that will protect both of you and send it to him and then each of you has a signed copy, you could try having them send you a bill of sale before you wire money! Best of luck! It was quite the nerve racking process when I did it, and the seller I dealt with was wonderful! I was just a nervous, skeptical person. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I guess it never occured to me that people would be nervous when sending me money that I wouldn't sent their horse, but recently it was brought up. I made up a contract saying that I would send the horse (her shipper was already arranged) once payment was made. It was just something in writing proving that I wouldn't just take the money and run. I also mailed her the papers as soon as payment was made.
if anyone sends a bill of sale the horse is somewhat legally yours even if you haven't paid for it yet so must people are hesitant to do that. |

Location: Somewhere between raising hell and Amazing Grace | I think my two situations were different then the average. First horse was bought from a well known person, Kenny Nichols, so I wasn't nervous. Plan was to send two checks, and by the time the shippers picked him up the second check would have long since cleared. However, shippers called two months early and offered a 50 percent discount to being him immediately because of a cancellation. Kenny was kind enough to say yes and hold the papers until second check got to him and cleared. I mailed the check when they shipped the colt.....then Kenny graciously held it again I believe a week or so because my mother was killed in a car accident the same day the colt arrived.
Second time was almost the same. I wasn't in the market to buy a horse so I didn't have the money set aside. Saw a yearling I just HAD to have. Offered to make payments, was not going to ship until last check cleared, but again got offered a steal of a deal to ship immediately because of an empty slot. But this was from a board member who has now become a dear dear friend of mine, emmylou. And again she held the papers until last check cleared. |

Location: North Dakota | I just got off the phone with him and he ansewered my questions and put me and my fiances concerns to rest (she's a little more cautious than I am when it comes to money)! He is going to fax us a legal bill of sale with info pertaining to price and filly info. We then sign it and send It back I him!! |
