I am looking at a nice DTF colt. He is 4 and just finished 4 months with a reining trainer. I really was looking for something ready to haul, but I love him.
I would never rush one, but just curious to hear success stories for how long it took others taking a very broke horse to ready for seasoning and then entering. Considering
(hopefully
) that the weather might finally come around!

RE: Success Stories
If it is really broke--usually takes me 45 days to be ready to exhibition. They are usually cruising a nice set by then, but not running full out. Maybe another 30 days after that to be able to really start running hard. That might not be all pattern work though--some pattern work, some dry work, some pasture days.

I am really interested in this thread too. I just got a DTF gelding that was started on barrels last year but has been on a hiatus for 9 months and I am bringing him back. He is softening up a little before I focus on barrels but he is just about ready to start back up!

It takes me 30 days to get a broke horse loping the barrels good enough for exbition. Of course there's exceptions, some take longer than others and some progress faster. I've been lucky to have the ones who progress fast, the ones I pick out. My gelding I bought in November of his 4 year old year,he was broke with all the buttons already there. He was running 3D at local shows and top of the 4D at big shows by March. 2D in July against nice nice horses at bigger shows. He's an exception though, he's got a great mind and he's smart an learns fast. He's just my personal pride since everyone told me he wouldn't make that great of a barrel horse and to stick to poles.
