Location: Post Falls, ID | we had a foal born with the same type of hard spot on his head. His mom died while giving birth, but I dont think that had anything to do with why he had this mark. It was about the size of a quarter and skin/wart like, I guess hard to explain.. It did fall off though probably around 2-3 weeks of age.

Okay, I dont know how to edit and add description to the photos I added. But our vet wasn't sure what it was either. Could have been from the way the foal was laying in the womb, head pressed up against somethin. The picture of our foal nursing is on his adopted momma. She was amazing. He was about 3 1/2 weeks here and still has the spot.. So it took longer to fall off then I first thought.. But I wouldnt worry about it.. |

Location: South Central Florida | This is not the same but may be similar. My daughter was born with a calus on her thumb and a blister on her upper lip. In the sonogram, she was sucking her thumb in the womb. Both went away...but maybe it's like a calus from the head rubbing against something, a rib mabe? |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | Could it be a congenital papilloma? I seem to remember us seeing that on a few foals back years ago when I worked for a mixed practice. They are hairless and raised and kinda have a cauliflower like surface appearance. Usually they appear on the head like that and are there at birth. They are benign and often fall off but if not they can be easily surgically removed. |
