I found out yesterday that my mare has an injury to her deep digital flexor.  I know that time off and rest is her best friend right now, but I was wondering if anyone had had any luck with any additional therapy?  I know that IRAP is an option, but I really don't want to spend that much money when I can accomplish the same thing with turn-out time. I am not in a rush or big hurry to get back on this mare, but would like any input on what else I could do to help her.  Thanks in advance!

Try Spectra Therapy's laser. It works really and does not cost that much. Plus it can be used for many applications over and over again. My friend purchased the dual kit and not only uses it for injuries but also when she has to transport her horse for a long way. It keeps the circulation moving so her horse does not stock up.

Back on Track wraps, PHT magnetic wraps, Runners Relief, Nutrawound. These aren't super pricey, and are very good products. Did the vet clear her for full turnout? They're supposed to be stalled or at least kept in a small area to prevent further injury. In full turnout, horses don't regulate their activity because they don't know they're supposed to be taking it easy so their leg can heal.

I would highly recommend smart tendon from Smart pak, I love this product and its fairly cheap.

Shock wave therapy. My mare had a DDFT injury due to the angle of that one foot dropping over 8 degrees in 6 weeks, every time. I don't think that we were dealing with any tearing and the shocwave gave almost immediate and long term relief.

Good luck!

There has been a lot of talk about DDFT injuries lately.  I am going it through it with my good horse.  Mine is insured, and I opted to do the artial stem cell.  I have been rehabbing for 3 months, the stem procedure was done 2 months ago.  He is not sore any longer, and the vet felt that he was making good progress at his last recheck.  We will re-ultra sound in 2 months (4 months post procedure).  I have high hopes, but the rehab process is wearing on both me and my horse. Good luck.
