I am so burning mad right now.
My husband holds a position of authority in his work place with two men immeadiately above him. The 'boss' is a figurehead and the 2IC actually runs the place. The 2 IC is a complete bully, he holds grudges and will fire people that he doesn't like and protect those he does.

He is forever txting my husband (he has a work phone my husband does not) about work and how it is a terrible place to work at, that my husband is the only one who has a clear vision for the future and knows how toimpliment chang to strive forward etc, etc.
Anyway, these txts have been increasingly strange. One minute he will txt something like the above and then two minutes later will txt that my husband is a  . . .  (insert the WORST  swear word you know right here) etc. After a few weeks of this my husband spoke to the 'boss' about the situation. The 'boss' brushed it off and said go see HR if you want to.
The next day hubby did, just to give them a head up about the situation as hubby believes it will come to  a head if it continues. HR said thanks for letting us know, let's just coast along and see what happens.

Half an hour later HR start pulling people into the office for interviews. One girl was completely beside herself with fear and they finally asked why and she said that she is terrifified of the 2IC and is scared that he will find out that she spoke with them and what he will do.
Later the same day, coincidently, a difference person in a position of authority went to see HR about this bully.

Fast forward three days - nothing has been done about the bully and my husband has BEEN DEMOTED.

So much for all the training about workplace bullying and that it is not OK. I am just burning up about this injustice and wish we could afford for hubby to leave. He has worked so hard for this comapny. He leaves every morning at 4.30am and is rarely home before 5. He is always the last to leave his work area. (There are about 200 workers under him.) He strives always to be improving the company. In one decision he saved them 40k and they do something like this.

I will for sure be looking for jobs for him but we live in a small rural area and have bought our own farm. There is nothing in his skill set going. Honestly, I am so fired up by this betrayal I want to go in there is bust some heads. If we were not in the middle of a serious drought I would tell him to quit and shoe horses. (Has been a farrier for over 19 years.)

Sorry BHW friends, I REALLY needed to get that out.

In theory HR is supposed to be 'fair' and 'discrete.'  But reality has shown time and time again, at least to me, that HR departments or personnel are in bed with the executives and will spill to them and side with them.  I know that's not 100%, and some HR have all the best intentions and conduct.  But the bigger the company, and higher up the top of HR is in the bigger companies, the less 'safe' anyone is that goes to HR.

VERY sorry your hubb did all the right things and got poop in return.  I'll go with you on your witch hunt if you decide to go that route!!

I think I'd be looking into what laws etc. there are in your state regarding this type of stuff. Of the bully is the owner you might be screwed. I'd also be documenting everything. Every text, conversation with bosses, hr, etc. prayers. I'm in a job I used to love and now hate due to changes. So I know it's no fun to go to a job tat is stressful.

I know this is not exactly what Ya'll want to hear. But here goes. Start JOB Hunting and NOW! Cause from your description, this situation will not improve but only debilitate as times progresses.

Β I agree with you completely. We are going to send a resume in for a job thf would excel at, the catch; it's is 12 hours away.we found a few others, all over 12 hrs away but they are only casual and we need security. The so called boss isn't the owner, it's a very weird situation imo.

It sounds to me that the "boss" might be suffering from some sort of depression or bipolar disorder. If you can't find another job, I'd go to work as usual, keep my head low, fly under the radar, do my job and go home. I would not offer any extra perks/work for the company. Eventually that boss will crack and hopefully then HR will see and get rid of him.

edited because I can't type

Agree, the bully has issues. I worked for a person like this once, it was miserable. I moved to another position in the company, and ultimately to another location. It took about 3 years, but they finally got rid of her. My corporation was large, and I think fair. This was before the days of text and everyone having a computer with email common.

Document and save EVERYTHING. When the time comes hubby and other employees information will build the case.

Good luck to you, hang in there.....everyone gets theirs it's just not as quick as you'd like.

Texting obscenities, fearful employees...sounds like a hostile workplace to me. Aren't there laws about that?

There are supossed to be!!!! That's why he went to the HR department. We are just blown away by the result. He is now in a position that he is not game to go to the union. If he was demoted just by talking to the HR, what will happen if he talks to the union!
It is a case of tryint to lay low and pray a suitable jobs comes up reasonably close or look at jobs far away and try to weigh up whether to sell the farm and both of us try to get new jobs. (The tought of that terrifies me.)

Thanks for your replies everyone. :-)

Just  a thought, HR could still be working and checking into it. The demotion might work against his boss if HR is still investigating and putting a case together

I hope everything works out the best for your husband

Yikes! That's scary!
My husband worked for a branch of Cummins and there was major favoritism in the shop. He decided to switch to a different company close to home. When he left he told them all the stuff that's been going on. They ended up firing a few people. And even the bosses are about to be fired for running the shop bad. They asked him if there was anything going on and he told them exactly what was going on.
The guys who still work there say a lot has changed. And for the better!
Maybe a different job will definitely help!

Are you saying your hubbie is in a union? He needs to see his union rep long before he went to HR. AND should have had is union rep in the HR meeting with him.
Depending on how he wants to handle this, get consultation with a lawyer that is familiar with these types of laws. Especially after being
demoted after seeing HR. Above all, he needs to file a grievance with his union against the company!
