The last two weeks I have been keeping my eye on the front feet of my 2 year old. It has not been wet at all and the soil here is sandy but on the outside corners of the coronet band it's slightly swollen and soft with hair forcing flat n outward instead of down over hoof.at fist I thought nothing of it, maybe bell boots were rubbing. But now that I palate there is a pain response and it is slightly larger and softer feeling than the rest with the right coronet being slightly worse than the left but both front hooves having the same problem located on the outside. There is not visible lameness. I am contacting my farrier as soon as it's not 6am.has any one else had this happen?

You probably have sand blisters with small abscesses fixing to split open at the coronet bands ........... grain of sand can get into hoof wall and work its way up to the coronet band .... the split will be horizontal to the ground and will leak liquid when it breaKs open ....

Look and see if you have a pink and/or blue spots in these areas ... or a dirty looking small hairline split ... you can help open a sand blister to relieve the pressure by very carefully using the point of a pocketknife to drill a small hole when you see the split open a little bit ... then the split will leak and over the next year grow out the toe of the hoof ...

Common on sandy soil or if a pebble or sand grain gets into hoof wall either bare footed or shod ...

GOOD LUCK ..

The cornet band looks really healthy other than its thicker and more squishy on the same spot on both hooves. I should put up a photo because describing it is really hard and it doesn't have any of those things u mentioned. Farrier is comming out tomorrow morning to take a peak. I can't find pictures on the internet that look anything like it.
