| teamthompson - 2014-04-08 4:45 AM ok, ya I have a similar situation except I have a mare, flaming jet bred. anyhoo, she can be a ball of nerves when its time to run, she is great any other time, stands tied, trailers well, stalls well, etc. I do feed her Ulc-R-Aid w Colostrashield, she doesn't have ulcers but I added this last year to her feeding program to aid in digestion and absorption, it is the only "ulcer" suuplement that I have found with the "calming" ingredinets such as: L-Tryptophan 500mg, Thiamine 500mg, Calcium 20mg, Magnesium 2.5mg BUTTTTTT, I need something to just keep her calm and listening to me at a race, bc the "run" takes over and u know the rest... wondering if Quietex paste before a race would work, or that EQ Prep paste from Smartpak???? Any advice appreciated.....not sure how to add pics... thanks in advance
I am going to suggest again.. Lots of love with your animal and the Teala. Take her out without any gear on. Just the bridle only, not a halter... walk with her through your training area and talk with her... love on her as you go along... After about an hour of doing this, stop and talk to her while you stand there for about thrity min.... After this, put on the least weighted sattle you have... and then walk more with her.. do not ride her yet.... after about an hour with doing this... stop again and talk with her for thirty min again... walk her back to where you normally saddle and then get on her.. do not ride off with her.. stand there loving her from the saddle for at least thirty min, but no more than one hour..... then ride her slow throughout for about thirty minutes...
Do this routine for about two weeks... after two weeks.. you are going to change the routine.... you will walk her less time and less time, but still talk a lot to her and love on her..even from the saddle... and you will see that before you know it.. you will be able to get her ready..while you talk to her and pet her and love on her.. saddle her and off you go.. she will be so happy.. and don't forget to always reward her with love..lots of love.. so she knows that her master is supper happy.. this will help her be calmn with you no matter what adventure you will enjoy together.
