Location: Middle Tennessee | Long story short: Sold a young horse, bought him back, he came up lame not too long ago. It's on and off, and not very bad, and he typically works himself out of it in the pasture. I just found out the people who bought him injected his coffin joint on both fronts for god knows what reason (not the brightest people.. why I bought him back). So, my question is, could he be limping because he needs injected again? (it's been about a year) Or could it be something unrelated? I plan to x-ray, just wanted to get some opinions. He is also giving me first barrel trouble and I'm wondering if this is why... |

Location: Sperry, OK | I would think they wouldn't just spend the money acid costs for injections for no reason. I would bet he needs to be injected again. Working himself out of it, sound like arthritis of some form to me and the injetions would help that.

| I agree that it sounds like arthritis. Injections and a good feed through supplement will help. Make sure he is balanced and his feet are the right angles. Also ck his shoulders for soreness.

Location: Middle Tennessee | Thanks. He is on IM injections of Aceytl D- Glucosamine Chondroitin and I feed Fluid Flex. I don't want to go in to detail but the people that bought him had money, but not much sense when it came to horses. They injected because he was lame from an abscess. These people said he "Caught" navicular. When I got him back I did x-rays and vet saw nothing wrong. |

Sometimes they are sore long before the changes show on x-ray. I would have a lameness done on him and see if he flexes off sore. Inject and see what you have (sometimes it literally is trial and see if they improve). You may want to make sure his angles are correct and he is not sore from being shod/trimmed incorrectly. I would probably put him on Adequan, Polyglycan, or Pentosan for injectable supplements. |
