I have a new born foal that was born March 14, I m fixing to move to
Texas 10 hours from where I live now. I wont be leaving til the end of tje month. Is it to early for him & momma to travel? I also had the thought of leaving all the dividers open so he could be next to her. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated ..thanks

I've seen foals travel with moms to be re-bred and ride several hours... Dunno about 10 hours tho.

If I were in your shoes..
I would make sure that they were the only two in the trailer. Baby will be able to get under the partitions. I would leave it open though. Bed it down heavy, and stop often. Baby will be able to lay down but I would take it easy on them anyway.

If you could remove the partitions. It would be best. While traveling with them open will break the welds, with the possibiilty of them falling. If your leaving them open be sure to tie them so they don't swing open. I hauled a weanling by itself from colorado to southern texas. Most of the time he was laying down, had free choice of hay and water all the way there No problem.Take the halters off once loaded so they dont catch on the gates.

I hauled a 3 week old foal from Jacksonville NC to Fort Worth. I left mom and baby untied, stopped every 4 hours for water, put out fresh hay, clean the trailer, and give mom a little grain and and make sure baby was okay. He was perfectly happy. It was harder on mom than it was on him. At one stop he was sprawled out asleep and poor mom was doing the straddle to avoid stepping on him.

Just keep em cool, keep em well watered and fed. Babies are more resilient than we think.
