Seems like I sell all the colts and end up riding the fillies that I have kept back for future broodies. We do not buy broodmares but rather breed for them---just recently I bought a broodmare and it was the first one I had bought in 12 years---cuz she was a daughter of Dash For Perks and out of a Jet Of Honor daughter---had to have her. LOL. You're the culprit! Lol! I wanted her too. Like BAD. That was a heck of a deal on that mare. I thought that mare was only a breeding lease. If you are talking the one here on bhw. NO, you could buy her or she was offering the option of leasing her for a year---we bought her.
Man I'm jealous. Good work! |

Thanks, we are pretty excited about it. Mrs. Mighty Broke was not too thrilled about another broodie, that puts us at 16, but I had to have her. LOL |

HHMMMM---she said almost those exact words !!!!!!!!! LOL I just had to convince her that a mare like that doesn't come around all the time, plus she was only about an hour away from us---it was meant to be. At least that is what I told Mrs. MB. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | This really depends on the breeding. Some studs I breed to I think would make a good stallion prospect so I hope for a colt; on these I'm thinking of resale value. Others I really want a filly so I can keep it long term, compete on it, and have a great broodie. My kids can ride these horses. I plan to sell any good stud prospects. I try not to breed to studs that wouldn't make a nice enough foal that they couldn't produce a stud prospect or a broodmare prospect either way and most certainly an excellent performance animal. I don't breed for 'gelding' prospects. Thus, my desires are based on the breeding; however, the outcome is based on God. :) I'm usually okay either way. |

Location: TN | LRQHS - 2014-04-11 10:01 AM Depends on the mare for me. Some I want fillies from and some colts. I have been so lucky so far with that too lol. I have a mare that has given me 3 colts in a row, one that has given me 3 fillies in a row and one that has given me 2 fillies in a row and is due any day (all exactly what I wanted from them). Of course, I just jinxed myself, but will probably blame you for that lol.
If you like the colt, get the colt. You can always sell him if it doesn't work out. I love little boys, they are sweeter than girls lol.
Good point! Thanks! I'm going to look at him Sunday so I can make a decision but I'm thinking I'll take a gamble on it and get him. Like you said if he doesn't work out like I hoped I could always sell him. |

| I used to be all about mares and fillies. Now I like my boys, the best horses I've rode have been geldings. Really I don't honestly care, both have their perks and fall backs. I would take the colt anyway. |

Location: Central Montana | I prefer to ride mares so I'd want a filly. If you want those certain bloodlines though and the colt is conformationally correct I'd go for it, you may have to wait several years to get a filly from that cross if the mare keeps foaling colts. |
