Bit Gurus - need suggestions

My new gelding is a big guy
(16.2
) and was ridden by his previous owner/trainer
(male
) in a snaffle. I on the other hand am pretty small and feel that I need something that offers more control. He does fine in a snaffle just riding around at home but he is strong running the pattern and I also don't feel like I have any brakes. I tried him in in an O ring combo and he did pretty well in that but I would like some other suggestions of bits to try. I am light handed and want as least harsh as possible.

Medium twisted wire snaffle.
The bite is there if you need it.
I would however, suggest, practise some rating skills at home in a safe area first.

you may also want to try an ed wright short or medium shanked bit. not the pretzel the other one.
If you want super super high quality, I suggest checking out Dave Elliott bits.. you can email him and tell him what you need and he will help point you in the right direction. his bits are worth every penny.

Jr. Cowhorse with whatever type mouthpiece your horse is comfy with. Of course all of the simplicity bits are great as well!

I like a dog bone JR cowhorse, chainmouth gag bit, sweet six, and freeman gag
I ride almost everything I get on in one of those...
