Well I have been in Fort Worth for about 6 months now and I LOVE IT! The people are awesome, the barrel racing is plentful, and I really couldn't imagine a more perfect place for me.. But... I have been on the house hunt for months and I can't find ANYTHING that will fit my price range.. Boarding, paying rent, and still paying all my bills on my house back home is adding up. I can't rent my place up there till I find something here and well that just is not even looking like a possibility unless I can spend in the 300K mark. Which I can't :(
So wheres the second best place in tx that you can actually buy a few acres and dump house for 150k or less?

Granbury- 30 miles south.  I commute to Fort Worth daily for work, it's not bad.  Easy to hit Stephenville, Cresson, Alvarado, salt creek, Weatherford.  Moved here in 2000 and love it.

Cheaper to live in Stephenville than Granbury. And there are cheaper places between Stephenville and Granbury. Not sure what you do, but the little towns surrounding Stephenville also have cheaper horse places - Dublin, Hico, Morgan Mill, Lipan, etc.

Try out in Paradise.  It's West of Forth worth so the drive is easy traffic wise.

There is a great Facebook page called "Texas horse properties for sale/lease/wanted" that has things listed ALL the time. Not many in that price range (which is our price range as well btw- so I notice) but there actually ARE a few places that would fit.

I'm an hour east of Dallas.  Not as much to go to here as there is over around Stephenville, but still plenty of options through the week and on the weekends.  My place isn't listed, but dang sure isn't a dump and it could be bought in that range.  I have 11 acres with pipe fence three barns, and a 3/1 metal home that's cute and clean.

I am down by hillsboro and land is WAY cheaper down here and it is about an hour commute to ft worth and still close enough for all the jackpots etc. we also have quite a few around here.

Typically, property is higher priced on the north side of Fort Worth than on the south.  Look around  Johnson County.  My kids recently bought a nice brick house on 3 acres for about $150,000.

I lived in Boyd when I was younger and I couldn't ask for a better place to live! We were 5 miles from salt creek arena and within an hour of some great places to compete at!! I would try some outlying cities that are less populated. Granbury is nice; My grandparents have lived there all my life; such a cute little town!

As far as full service towns go, you can get a lot for your money in Stephenville. I'm looking too and there's a fair amount of places around here in that price range. Weatherford and Granbury are closer to Fort Worth, but will be more expensive.

Tyler, TX?? Land is still cheap if you stay out of the pricier
Bullard area. You could do a lot with 150k around here.

Ditto,,,, just because something is more Afordable in an outlying area, factor in real time commute, cost of fuel. Do you want to be driving an hour or more to your job? Depending on what you drive (how many MPG) it can add up quick. That extra two hundred a month could have been part of a house note. Do the math. Drive the drive in the hours your work is scheduled.
