I am needing to add something to my lasix for my bleeder - I have heard of using Amicar/Kentucky Red/Dex with their lasix and was just curious who is doing what and what your schedule was for administering it.
I had him scoped and he was clear and then he bled through lasix again after coming off several months to recover and several weeks of conditioning to get back in shape.
He is getting supplements for the bleeding but its not working alone

Where can you get kentucky red and is it USEF legal
(for WPRA rodeos/events
)? and do you just give the kenucky red by itself or do you give lasix as well??? DO you give it IV or IM.

What is the mechanism of action of Kentucky Red? I'm surprised I have never heard of it.

I have to use the Kentucky red and 4 cc LAsix She is a very bad bleeder before we switched she was on 9 cc LAsix. Have been able to do these meds even in the very hot humid weather and it holds her.

I ran my gelding on 4-6cc lasix for a year and he started bleeding threw. This year my vet added Ventipulim along wiht lasix. I am running on 6-7cc lasix IV 1.5 hrs out and 3cc Ventipulim orally 3 hours out. I have thought about trying kentucky red but everyone I know
(vets and race trainers
) all said not to use it?

For those using Kentucky Red - how are you dosing it? I was told 3cc night before and 3cc 3 hours out with my lasix
(IV
)
Is that what everyone is doing?

My horse is a silent bleeder. I use Lasix and put the Aculife Patches on the lung points. It is working and the best thing is I'm not giving a lot of drugs.

Carbazochrome Salicylic
(Kentucky Red
) is a hemostatic agent, its known to stabilize the capillary cell membranes. The MOA is unknown, however its known to reverse thrombin and typtase cascade in bleeding.
Please talk to your vet about your horses circumstances. This was my starting point when I was training. 5ml night before then 3-5ml 3-4 hours pre race.
OP, have you looked at getting a sonogram
(or x-rays
)of your horses lungs? You might get a little more info of whats going on...

I sure like the flair strips. We use them twice with a little race track glue.
