I have been interested in kinesiolgy tape for awhile and I just started researching it again. Anyone have any experience taping a horse? I am looking to see if there is a way to tape to help stifles. I have two horses with bad stifles and I'm wondering if there is anyway to tape that will help tighten and strengthen the ligaments when conditioning. Any and all info would be great!!

I've done it on humans, but not horses. I find it beneficial for providing feedback on humans with promoting the right movement patterns (thereby helping strengthen the correct muscles), as long as it is applied correctly.

i have used the K tape on myself-actually the chiro put it on me- with great results. My horse just recently strained something in his ankle and I wanted to use the tape on the horse. But what I am learning is that while it may be good for additional support on the horse, because there is so much fur on the legs, I wouldn't get the lymphatic response I am looking for. So I decided not to use it. But I would think that if you were going to use it for support only it would help, but I would go with a cheaper tape then.

I think it would definitely help (as I sit here with my entire shoulder/collarbone/upper back covered in K-tape) but my main concern is finding a tape that would stick to hair. Definitely interested if there is actually a strong enough tape!

Would clipping help? I do that when I need meds to penetrate better.

Ive used kinesio tape many times before, I am not completely sold on it. It stings taking it off especially if there is hair there! I would clip the area down pretty good before using it!

There is a k-tape specifically for horses. I'm not sure what is different about it but it is called equi-tape.

I love a kinesiology taping, I am a chiropractor and use it on my patients.  The big thing is know what you are taping for and knowing the muscles.  The problem I think you could have with taping a horse is getting the tape to stick.  It would be really cool if it would stick.  Also the way the stifle sits it might be difficult to get the tape to stay.  It would be worth a shot.  Kinesio tape works great for somepeople and not so much for others.  I like rock tape, has the best adhesive in my opinion, but I don't know about the tape made for horses.  Also depends what the problem in the stifle is.
