Dancing in my Mind

and I am a little more that nervous about it. 100% truthful, big cities scare the crap out of me and I am so out of my element but I am doing it for my daughter to have a wonderful opportunity and experience. Her dance group is performing at the Statue of Liberty and they get a workshop with a Rockette, so I am sucking it up and braving the elements. LOL!

So PLEASE help me out and tell me what I need to know about the city. I am a newbie about anything city life, visited DC about 5 years ago and it was the first and last time I was ever in a taxi or on the subway. We will be staying near Time Square and for most of the events we have a guide but on Saturday, we are on our own for a while. We are planning on visiting the 911 memorial and going to see two Broadway shows, but what else do I need to see or do? And what do I need to know the most about NYC to survive?

It didn't help my confidence that I just talked to a good friend that travels the world and he told me that NY is one of his least favorite places to go.... OOOHHH the things we do for our children....

I'm a country girl too, but back in my younger years I thought it would be fun to live in NYC. That was back in 1996 and I lasted one year. I still enjoy visiting though. NYC is made for walking, subway system is easy and safe. I hate taking a taxi there. Always get car sick. Lots to do, see, eat and shop. Some great museums too.

Have fun!

Its always crowded. Take it from someone who lives near it and has to travel thru it to get anywhere, its a pain. I dont mind visiting but no matter the time of day theres always people. During the night there will be sirens. Dont expect quiet nights. Also it has been cool up here. (50s-60 day and 30-40s night.) usually warmer in city though

Don't worry about it, it's really not bad.  Not somewhere I would want to live, but it's fairly easy to get around.

You'll hear sirens off and on all night... Just pay attention to your surroundings and enjoy seeing the sites.

Thanks everyone! I mean it when I say, I am not a city person. Probably could count on one hand, and have a few fingers left over, all the bigger cities I have ever been in and if I was there, I was with someone who drug me there. LOL!

I do like that several events are planned by the guide but I am sure I will still be over whelmed. I really want to see the 911 memorial though at least once in my life. Also very excited for the opportunity my daughter is getting, I know some of it is just a way to get people to the city but still exciting for her and the other girls.

And Roxy, I will gladly put you in my suitcase!
