Extreme Veteran Posts: 342 Location: Alabama	Our Nbha State show is in 2 months, I know I'm take 2 of my seasoned horses but I'm debating on taking my colt... I wanna take him because he's been out clocking my 4D horse by a second or more with out me asking him, & I just really love him. He's been hauled and entered in local shows, in out door pens & done perfect. I've hauled & exabishion him in 2 nbha shows before I started entering him, & idk if it was the collisium with the walls or people behind the barrel or inexperience but in his exabishions he tried to duck the 2nd barrel, but was perfect on 1 & 3. After the 4th exabishion he seemed to get over it that day. Idk if I should enter him at the state show I wanna take him but I don't wanna out out the money & him duck & potentialy start a bad habit or mess him up

I know sometimes even the state shows have open arena or even exhibitions before the event starts. That is your best bet. Think about how awesome he will be next year if you give him the best shot he can have. About 72 or so other people have already glanced at this thread and had no opinion. Kind of sad. If there is a chance he will duck I just believe you should get him solid, not push him and have him awesome later.

Elite Veteran Posts: 683 Location: Ohio	I would if I had the extra $ for a stall, even if you don't enter him. There will be a lot for him to take in and learn from, plus you will be able to see how he copes with the hustle and bustle of a busy event. Even going through the motions in a crowded warm up pen would be beneficial.

Not Afraid to Work Posts: 4717	I agree with other posters. Take him and Exhibition him if you can. A friend of mine horses ducked for the first time running at night and took while to break the habit. So if you can take him slow and work on him then you'll feel much more confident at the next race.

Expert Posts: 2097 Location: Deep South	When my sister was seasoning her 4 yo she ducked for a long time at the 2nd barrel at indoor pens. The only way they can get over it is to go. I agree that if you can afford to take and exhibition him you should. You'll be prepared for it and can take him slower to the 2nd barrel, and have two firm hands on the reins.
