I'm afraid she isn't gonna be with us much longer. She's 17 and is deaf and she eats but can't keep any weight on. I tried to help her out of the truck today but she jumped before I got a good hold on her and her legs collapsed under her when she landed and I had to stand her back up because she couldn't get up. She tried to run but falls. She's lost tons of weight. She used to be right at 100lbs I doubt she weighs 35lbs now. I noticed her having diarrhea a couple days ago and saw her throw up just a tiny tiny bit of blood today. I know the end is very very near. She's been a very good friend and hunting partner for 15 of her 17yrs. Anyone that's ever watched her work will tell you that dogs like Molly are very very rare. We can only hope that our puppy is half the dog she is. Out of 15yrs of hunting everyday during hunting season she's only lost 2 deer. She never quit until she found them. Maybe it's bad but I don't pray for her to get better now because I think that's selfish. I pray that she passes in peace with no suffering. She deserves everything that there is in doggy heaven.

If they weren't such a source of love and comfort it wouldn't be worth the pain of losing them. God bless your sweet pooch.

It sounds like she was a great dog. Is compassionate euthanasia not an option? Sounds like it may be time.

I agree with euthanization. When my 15 yr old ****zu started being unable to control her bowels, I took her to the vet to end her suffering. I couldn't be there for the injection, but I picked her up later that day and she is buried on the farm.

It sounds like she was a great dog. Is compassionate euthanasia not an option? Sounds like itΒ may be time.Β

We talked about it and talked to the vet. She doesn't act like she feels bad. Vet said that thin with her falling is most likely from arthritis. She still eats good. So we decided until she quits eating or is throwing blood up worse than yesterday we will. There wasn't any blood in her pen this morning so I'm thinking that may have been from something she may have ate in the barn.
