Location: Pacific Northwest | I'm sure this is has been talked about, I tried a google search and couldn't find one though. Have any of you had success with feed-thru fly supplements, either straight garlic or something like Smart Bug-Off by SmartPak? |

Location: Oklahoma | I have not had the luck with the feed throughs others may have. What has been an absolute wonder product for me are the Fly Predators. I began using them for the first time this past April, and I am beyond thrilled with how well they work. I usually have mobs of flies by now, even with good manure management and stall cleaning. This year, I could count less than a dozen flies and the horses are not stamping their feet constantly and swishing their tails all the time. |

Location: LaBelle, Florida | I put my filly on the garlic from Springtime. She has been on it for about 2 months and I see a difference in her. She is not scratching herself nearly as bad, so 90 percent less. Every now and then I see her scuff the top of her tail.
I am still seeing a few small welts on her stomach area that I believe are from laying down and the ants getting her.
I also have the automatic misters set up in my barn area and that has also helped.
I live in SW Fla so there is a major amount of flying biting insects here to combat. |

| I had no luck with garlic - they quit eating it, or the fly preditors - I couldn't tell a difference with them at all - I really thought they might work since the local track used them. I don't know why they didn't for me, but they didn't. I mix my own fly spray of cider vinegar, Dawn and Skin So Soft - it seems to work as well as Pyranna (sp?). |

Location: Southeastern Idaho | I feed Smart Bug Off to my 6 year old mare. She is extremely sensitive to flies and used to get hives every spring. After a round of Dex I looked for something else. Smart Bug Off keeps the hives away and the flies don't seem to bother her as much. I like it. Works for her and I don't have to monkey around with steroids and laying her off anymore. |

I have used Equitrol in the past that worked really well in decreasing flies. I was going to order that again through Valley Vet and saw another product with great reviews - Solitude IGR by Pfizer. Anyone tried this versus the Equitrol? |

I'm with you! Have used Springtime Garlic for 10 years now and my horses and I LOVE it! We start feeding it in around mid March, (funny since I'm NE WY and spring doesn't hit till about now:)), but it has made a world of difference for our horses, especially those that are sensitive and have thin skin. |

Location: west of East Texas | I've used Solitude for three years now. I used to keep spraying my horses and putting fly traps all around the barn but this didn't work very well for me. The horses are turned out 23 hours a day so the pasutre was fertile ground for fly breeding. The feed through has slowed the reproduction down and although there are still flies around, they aren't thick by any means. I rarely ever spray the horses anymore, usually just at shows now. |
