Well I am officially horse less for the first time since I was 8. I just sold my last horse today...:( makes me a little sad....ok a lot sad....but I no longer have the time to use him and he would just lose value sitting for 2/3 more years well I waited for my son to be old enough to go down the road with me.I sold my prospect last year and gave away my old retired horse to a very dear friend because I could not afford them. I was really hoping to stay active and run some this year but it just was not a do able.I took Boone for a nice trail ride today to say goodbye,I have had him since he was a yearling. I did all of his training and am very proud of the horse he became. I know he will be happy and well cared for by the family the bought him. I always intended to sell him but its hard to finally say goodbye he has saved my bacon more then once on dark night on the trail packing in the backcounty and in the arena he....

I cant imagine how difficult of a time this must be for you. But just remember that you can always get back to this and sometimes your priorities change a bit.

I do appreciate those who do whats best for their horse. Its hard to make that unselfish decision and not wanting them to waste away like so many do. Enjoy this next chapter!

hugs to you

Thank you....It was really hard but he is the perfect horse for them they can all ride him and use him from 4H to jr high rodeo. I am hoping to find a good place to put the money from him so it can grow some and then I can get a pro caliber prospect in a few year.

Enjoy your son. Know that you are not quitting barrels, just putting them aside for the time being. You will get back to it, and maybe that once in a lifetime horse for you, is being trained and seasoned and will be ready when you are.

My heart goes out to you,,,,,,,, There is nothing easy about selling your horse.  You did the right thing. I can tell you from experience, enjoy every minute with your son.  Time will fly by so quickly, you will find another horse when the time is right but you will never get back the time your going to be spending with your son.  Be proud of the fact that you made the right decision.

I did the same thing when we first got married. Sometimes that little break makes you appreciate it even more when you are ready to go back to running again.
Hugs...
