Location: Displaced Iowegian | It has been a very sad and tough “holiday” week-end. I want to thank everyone for your suggestions, your good thoughts and many prayers when I needed them. It let me know that I have a whole gang of very good friends. Our constant companion of 16 years, Pistol, is gone. As many of you know he has been battling severe heart failure (and suspected cancer) for almost a year and had gotten worse in the last month. He was my Mother’s Day present from my youngest son, Jason, in the spring of 1998. As a “baby”, he spent his days in the saddle shop with John. He was a comfort to me many times, snuggling next to me in bed when I was sad. He jumped with joy when I was happy. He would bark to let us know that we had visitors but that was the extent of his watchdog duties. Once a person was in the house, he never knew a stranger and loved everybody. My sons always said that we spoiled Pistol more than we did them. My retort was that he was better behaved and he loved back unconditionally. RIP Pistol !!!!

| So sorry Norma. He was a good dog. Extend my condolence to John too, since I know he's been preparing for this for a week or so. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | What a face. I'm so sorry to hear this, Norma. When we lose a companion like this it leaves a hole in our hearts. 16 years isn't long enough. It sounds like he was an incredible, devoted dog. It's not hard for me to see how people who own animals like this tend to live longer. I hope you get a new puppy soon. |

Location: Ohio | So sorry to hear this... its so hard to loose such a special family member. I am in the same boat and am dreading the day when I will no longer have my little side kick. She is a 98 model with an enlarged heart and we just discovered multiple spots of a fast growing cancer. It may be an odd thought but I believe God is an animal lover (we are coming back on horses after all) so hopefully he will bless us with our beloved critters in heaven someday. |
