She said stallion was done forthe year he is acting like a gelding:-)that is not my fau my mare is ready and we have had a wierd spring a bad sprihg and every cycle late. What i have is the initial vet visit a breeding that i paid for and a ultrasound. They sent me a certificate with sperm count no way to check. I had to pay for allof this still have a open mare. At the repo center. Lutlyse and 5 days baby. He saud my mare was easy to get in foal. I thinking themstallion was no good especially sense that he quit breeding. My mare dady bred 25 mares last year he lived. And he was 28. She was saying he bred dummy 3 days a week from fevb to end of may 2014.

Breeding every other day is recommended when doing live cover...I would think the same AI'ing. Once is usually enough if done with an ultrasound. If he is bred that often, chances are he is sore and worn out. Don't care who the stud is, poor fella needs a break before that thing falls off.

Breeding too often, more than once a day can cause inflammation among other things and your mare may have trouble settling.

To better answer your question, you can be mad and maybe have some right, but a horse is a horse and you can't make them do certain things. If he is burned out (I imagine the top stallions like FG are collected 3 days a week from early Feb to maybe June???) and I bet they are about sick of it...maybe not as they are male lol. I would just chaulk it up to bad luck. Have had plenty of that myself.

They said no shipping after June 1, to me that is no shipping after June 1 doesn't matter if you were booked in or not.

You should have had your ducks in a row, you may be able to re breed next year. It sounds like you also have access to frozen, it's not the stallion owners fault your vet is not set up for frozen. Get a different vet.

As for catching, there are so many things that can cause a mare not to catch, blaming the stallion I think is poor taste.

Sounds like to me you just ran into some hard luck, sence its getting late for breeding I would just count it as hard luck this year and maybe start a little eariler next year.

I've seen a few ranch stallions (not their breeding, their situation) that were turned out with the ranch mares on June 1 and did not ship after that time.

Bring your mare up the road -- I promise you won't be disappointed in the offspring!! LOL!

If a stallion contract states till June 1, that's usually when they quit breeding. Personally living up north I probably wouldn't book to a stud who stopped breeding that early.
As far as the semen quality that was sent, my vets usually check sample under a microscope. You can see the concentration and how many forward moving sperm there is.
If you wanted to get her bred this year I would definatly find a equine vet with a lot of experience in AI'ing with frozen semen.

Not breeding after June 1 means just that.  Collecting stallions is a hard job and most people need to put a time limit on when it is time to quit for the year.  You just need to have your mare ready to breed next year.

Unfortunately, mares aren't like cheerleaders on prom night, sometimes it takes more that 1 try.  If they stop collecting June 1, they stop June 1, it is pretty standard for stallion owners to have definite start and stop dates on their breeding seasons.  It's not the stallion owner's fault your mare didn't take 1st time, nor is it their fault the spring was weird and your mare wasn't cycling reliably. If it was me, I would get my mare as prepared as I could to try next year. Pt her under lights starting Thanksgiving to get her cycling early and give you more cycles before the June 1 cutoff.

I know they said 1st of june. I just figured that ment no new breeding after that and my 14-16 days ultrasound would have been monday so even if i checked her then. I am not being pissy but it was said oh if u want frozen call this vet and being this late in afternoon they are not going to run it to fed ex. Problem mare was ready now. I just chaulked dont worry this time. I have friends that breed horses for a living they breed live cover they when more supprised that i was. I guess maybe because i was dealing with a big race breeding operation not a family business.

You have to really read those contracts and most of the bigger barns, even some of the smaller ones are set in stone. We only live cover until May 25th. The reason is, any day after that the stallion is out in pasture with our mares. We offer pasture breeding, but some mare owners don't want to go that route. So if you were to breed your mare late May and she came up open, you would be SOL unless you were willing to pasture breed after that. It's not because we don't want to, we just can't get the whole group of horses in and pull the stud from our hot mares to re-cover an open outside mare.

Just get her ready and pray for better luck next year

I agree it stinks. I also have to agree with not choosing a stallion that has that early of a cut off date. There are a lot of people here with babies just starting to come. The weather here in Montana does not allow for early babies unless you have a lot of indoor and heated facilities.
