Location: north dakota | So I bought a gelding at a sale from a breeder as a long yearling. When he was a 2 year old I called breeder because I thought he was acting a little bit study and I wasn't sure but I thought I palpated a testical. Called up breeder who said thAt they castrate their own colts and said that they would never let a colt leave without taking both I looked again after calling and thought I was maybe wrong but I had kept him with a gelding for the next year. He was across panels from mares and I didn't see anything unusual.
The next year when he was a 3 year old I ended up turning him in my group of horses due to the mud after the extreme amount of rain and with me seeing the horses frequently I didn't notice him acting studdy. I had a horse Shoer out and it started raining so I brought him in the barn to trim him. I had a broodmare in heat in the barn and he went nuts. Checked him again and sure enough he had a testical.
Got that one cut but I'm afraid that he may be a cripto. I have to pay for castration plus US on three of my mares that I use and DO Not Want Bred that where in with him for 2 weeks plus a HCG test to see if they took one testical and left the other. I have to wait around 2 months.
I feel totally stupid But i feel if your a reputable breeder I should be reimbursed what I have to pay in vet bills. I don't care about the inconvince I have because now he's sitting in round pen since my horses are separated by age not sex

| I thought I posted this but it didn't post. I had a gelding about 20 yrs ago that was gelded and removed 2. I was at a show about 2 yrs later and there was something hanging down in that area. Took him to the vet and sure enough he had a 3rd. Had it removed and he was fine. So it can happen. Also had a mare that had both male and female equipment. So strange things happen |

| If the horse went through an auction it is buyer beware.
You could go after the auction for not verifying or misrepresentation, and you would have to check with your state about the statute of limitations as you may be over the time limit.
For the mares you could just give them a shot to abort instead of testing. |

| My sister has had her colt gelded 3 times. First time the vet took 2, a year later another one, and a year later another one. The vet said it is rare but not unheard of. The breeder could very well be telling you the truth.

So you're saying a gelding can regrow his testical's? |

No, but they can have an extra or two. Very rare, but not unheard of. |

Location: n.c. | We had one that had a total of 4. After removing 3; with the 3rd one having complications, we just left him alone. Used him to check the mares coming in. Not a problem. So, yes, some do come with extra equipment. |

| It is not uncommon for one to have 3 testicles that is how in the old days you had one that was "proud cut" A vet worth his salt today will check for extras and remove wolf teeth. I always get the whole package. laughing |
