Expert Posts: 1410 Location: Peach State	My gelding had some blood tinged mucus from one side of his nose tonight about a hour and half after we ran at a jackpot tonight. Not a lot and like I said it was in a bit of mucus and after I wiped it out I didn't see anymore come down. I'm just concerned bc this is the third time I've given him oxy boost paste (all in a weeks time) I only give it pre preformance mainly for breathing and electrolytes since it's summer and he already seems to get a lil winded in the heat. The days he was on oxy boost he was roping and didn't have any blood.

I'm Cooler Offline Posts: 6387 Location: Pacific Northwest	It means he's bleeding from his lungs...sometimes they don't bleed out their nose and are still bleeders. There a LOT of topics about bleeders on this board, a search will probably get you an overwhelming amount of information! (: ETA I shouldnt say it means for sure he's bleeding from his lungs, I'm sure something else can cause bloody mucus, but that's most likely it. A scope from the vet after a run would be a good idea. Expert Posts: 1410 Location: Peach State	That's what I'm afraid of I just find it odd that at 17 the horse has never "bled" after a run until tonight and this was his first run using oxyboost (which isn't focused on respiratory but is suppose to aid with several resp issues) and I don't know why he wouldn't have bled after roping a few pens of steers the other night.

Night Watchman Posts: 5516 Location: Central Montana	A mare I sold is 18 this year, I ran her for several years and this is the third yer the new owners have had her and she bled for the first time this year. I don't know why now it happened but they have been working with their vet for the last several weeeks trying to figure out the best dosages and when to give them.

Worst.Housekeeper.EVER. Location: Missouri	I would have him scoped to answer your questions. I had one that bled like that and it was from irritation in her nasal cavity, probably caused by allergies.

He is known to have allergies. Well she had him scoped the next day to see what his lungs looked like. Lungs were good but he bled from irriation due to his allergies.

Member Posts: 11	Have a gelding that started like that just a little discharge blood colored from his nose. I ignored it and one time after a run blood poured bad so had him scoped and started him on Bleed Block form Equdite and in two weeks we had him scoped after a heavy work out and the vet said he didn't see any signs of bleeding I been using it for six months and been on the road to Arizona hot dry weather and still no problems bleeding! Knock on wood. He actually feels like he is having a easier time breathing while running. My favorite part of the supplement even if you don't scope the horse this supplement helps with the lungs and stamina so it won't hurt the horse if it's not a full blown bleeder.
