I have had 2 daughters of Hot Colours by SE. They were a little different type of mare. The one was pretty people friendly, the other not so much. SE was one of the few sires that was able to produce Champion and Champion producing sons AND daughters. These horses then went on to produce Champions (on the track). They have made pretty nice arena horses too.
I have these mares now that go to him and so far love them. Easter Speedster

I could have told you your mares were Special Leaders from a mile away. I have always liked Special Effort but I LOVE his son Special Leader. I have a son of his and a friend of mine has a son of SL also and he really really stamped his babies you know a Special Leader when you see them. In my experience they have a ton of heart and they flat make barrel horses. I would have a pasture full of Special Leader broodmares if I could find them!

| I couldn't load the picture of my son of Special Leader but here is a 3yr old filly by him she is out of a Doc O Lena mare. I have to see if I can get others resized. Ok got them and just like to share because I love the babies so much this year. The son of Special Leader was still in his fuzzies.

Location: SE Missouri | We owned a full brother to Special Effort (Especial Effects) and he actually had some intermittent issues with abscesses also. He was very quirky BUT I think it had a lot to do with how he was handled after retiring from the track (he was AAA). The BEST stud I've handled in the breeding shed but if he didn't "like" you he could be a snake to just handle. I never had problems with him and he would suck his tongue when I would groom or bath him. I wish now we would have rode him or had pasture to turn him out on to be a real horses, I think it would have made a big difference on him mentally..
His colts that were given a shot made nice barrelhorses. I think he ended up in North Dakota and was raising some colts. I hadn't heard anything about them in several years. |

He was in WY several years ago siring some nice barrel horses. I think he sold or died since. He was a looker in the ads I have seen of him. |

Location: Denver, but a Nebraska native -- GO BIG RED!!! | I had a daughter of Hot Colours who was a nutcase. She was scared of her own shadow. I don't know if she had been mistreated before I got her or what. She managed to get into some barbwire and effectively got her back leg off. BTW she was out of an an daughter of Rocket Wrangler. |

| Mine is a Special Effort daughter o/o a Streakin La Jolla dtr. We purchased her as a 6 yo broodmare but after riding her and finding out more of her history we decided she's going back to the arena :) she still has a foal at her side so I've only hauled her twice to smaller runs.
The mare is a complete doll to be around. She isn't a "in your pocket" type horse, but she's so laid back and willing. She does have a lot of go to her, but after a couple seconds of convincing her to relax she walks off just fine.
Mine is very similar to Just Bring It's mare. She goes into a barrel really close, bends around it, and takes off like a powerhouse. I actually had to buy a new saddle JUST for this mare because I couldn't stay with her coming out of the turns. She is a very down to business type horse and doesn't want to be picked on. I have no reason to pick on her so I just try to let her work as much as possible, and especially try staying out of her way coming out of the turns :) |

Location: So. Cali. | I have a maternal Great GrandDaughter of SE through Strawfly Special. Big bodied mare, very sweet in your pocket personality. Not marish at all. Love her mind and disposition. When shes 'on' shes 'on' on the barrels. Has clocked with some good ones. She is off the track so I always chalked her feet issues to that. She has pedal osteititus in her front right, so we have to keep her sole protected and pay attention to how short she gets trimmed.

Location: Buffalo, Wyoming | I have a 7 year old Special Leader daughter that I LOVE! We bought her last year and she has been put on the back burner until recently. I am hoping I can start entering her in the next few months. She is so laid back and doesn't really get excited about anything else you take her buddy away when you are at a barrel race or something. She just need to be hauled more. She is very natural at everything she does. I would have a million of her if I could.
