I don't want to release the name we are planning on for our little girl to all my friends so I figured I would ask on here and get some opinions. We are in love with the name Lucchese. But I am afraid no one is going to be able to pronounce it correctly and she is going to be spending her whole life correcting people. Ideas for alternate spelling? I was thinking LuKayce possibly? Thanks in advance!! :) |

Ooooo that's a toughey....
It's such a beautiful, western name - to change the spelling would be a shame. But I totally get where you're coming from. I'm a teacher and I've seen LOTS of interesting names and thought "what in the woooorld?" But if I ran across your daughter, I'd know how to pronounce it. Are you in an area where most folks would recognize it? Or are you in a city/suburb where she's be called "Lou Chess?" all the time?
If you were to spell it differently.....
LouKacey?
LuCasey?
LouCasey?
LuKacey?
Gosh that's tough. I hope you leave it. Lucchese is a lot easier to deal with than a "normal" name that has been spelled differently: Meghann (my sister), Kahner (Connor), Mikhael (Michael). It's just a quick pronunciation correction :) I'd leave it.
When are you due? I'm due August 24!

I know! I almost do not want to change the spelling because it takes away from the name. I live in Southeast South Dakota. So its tough to say if they'd be able to pronounce it or not.
I am due October 20th.
My grandmother who I was very close with passed away almost 4 years ago. Her name was Tova Antonette. So we are trying to figure out a middle name.
Lucchese Tova or Lucchese Tovette is kind of what I am thinking.
I think Lucchese Antonette is too long. I just love Lucchese.
My name is Katerina and people always say Katrina. and its always drove me NUTS. I dont want her to deal with the same crap. I've been called "Katie" since I was born though so unless I was somewhere where someone had to read my name it hasn't been an issue. I dont have any intentions of shortening her name however.

My vote is for LouKacey! Very unique name for a little girl, I love it! |

| As mothers, no matter what good intentions we have for unique names.... she's going to end up being Kaci to her friends. Trust me, I have four girls and they all changed their names to some variation that they felt more connected to. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | I actually like the Antoinette as a middle name. It balances out the longer first name just fine. I've always like the name Katherine Elizabeth. There are so many nickname options that the kid can pick. It will also sound good on graduation day. It's a name a girl can shorten and be friendly but use respectfully in the professional world. It has a lot of umph. |

Location: Texas | I've only ever met one Lucchese in my life and she went by Casey. I loved the name. As unique as it is, I don't see the point in changing the spelling. I've had people butcher my name all my life. I think the unique spellings just add to the confusion.
I also really like Antionette for the middle name.
But at the end of the day, go with what you prefer. Doesn't matter how you spell it, even simple names get mispronounced. |

| It's funny that you posted this. My husband and I were talking about names the other day (I'm not pregnant though lol) and I have always loved Lucchese also. He had the same problem though, because I showed him how to spell it and he was like, "No one would ever be able to pronounce it!" I still love it though. I think changing the spelling changes the way I view the name though, it's not longer a westerny name, but a made up one (in my head anyways)! |

Location: where ever my L/Q trl is parked | I vote for LuCasey Tova--- at least the first name wpuld be pronounce right. It sounds very classy and gret name for barrel racing/author/business. "Members of the board my I present LuCasey Tova" I love Tova- Tovette would be shorten to Vet.

Location: Displaced Iowegian | In all honesty, I have heard Lucchese pronounced as lu”cheese”, lu”chess”, lu”chessy”, lu”cheesey”, lu”case”, etc……so I am SURE your daughter will have to correct people her whole life regarding the pronunciation………but it would be a beautiful name…..YOUR choice! |

Location: right where I wanna be | Thanks everyone! Naming a child is so difficult! Our sons name is Riggin Augustus. So I have to pick something unique that will fit well with that :) we like western and unique. So many decisions to make and it won't be long and she will be here! |
