Location: Middle Tennessee | My saddle is leaving dry spots on both of my geldings up near their withers. Is my gullet too big, too small, or does the saddle just not fit? The white gelding has a touch of atrophy starting as well. I am trying to post pictures now. I have another post up about what to do if your gullet is too small, but I'd like to know if that's the issue.

Location: North Dakota | I have odd horses apparantly, both of mine had dry spots at the withers with a standard Sharon Camarillo Combo. I happened upon a REALLY good deal on a vintage Camarillo barrel saddle and tried it (it has the smaller gullet) and my dry spots were gone. I also happened to try a CSI pad about that same time so thought it was the pad (which I do like) but rode one of my guys in the wider combo saddle last night and his dry spots are almost worse than before. So in my circumstance too big leaves dry spots.....BUT this might have something to do with the difference in her origanal tree and the new tree-if there is a flare or a twist to the tree I dont know....

Location: North Dakota | IMO, I think your saddle is too wide for the sorrel and too narrow for the gray. I think you should try shimming both of them, just to see if you have some better sweat marks. That's my opinion until the saddle fitting gurus show up and give you their opinion........haha, for the record I may delete all of my posts once they get here. |

| If you are going to buy a saddle I would suggest taking both horses and have them fitted by an expert.
I find it has more to do with what you feel under the saddle.
I also know that some people are using thermography for saddle fit, you might want to look at that.
If one of your horses is developing atrophy, I personally would stop riding that horse till I got a saddle that fit properly, it is a pain in the backside to reverse the atrophy. |

One thing you could try is call Martin saddlery and ask who they have for fitters in your area, crown c also has a try before you buy which I would recommend as crown c's are not for everyone.
Also perhaps post pictures of your horse without a saddle. I have one who is nearly impossible to fit as she is very flat backed, and medium wide, she is inbetween an old slone before they went to the 3 trees and a b3 tree.
Edited to add if you send your pictures to slone they will give you their opinion of what slone saddle will fit the best.
Just remember every saddle company will try and sell you theirs, I would encourage you to try as many as possible before you buy so you get one that you will love and use.

Not sure what part of Tennesse she is in,but you could try Felicia Carlton Peloquin........she has a business tack ad on this site, and has several brands to try, plus experience barrel racing, not just fitting a saddle......which I think is helpful |

Get in touch with WimpyB on here, it is Meleta Brown and she has designed the freedom saddle that Crates sells. You can send her your pictures and she call and/or text her and she'll work with you. She is amazing, she will also send you a demo to try and you can see if you like it. I did this a few months ago and ended up buying the demo because it fit perfect. I had tried a ton of different saddles and the Crates is what fit the best for my mare. |

Location: TN | Pencham Tack in Kentucky right across the state line north of Clarksville TN has an "open house" every year in December where tack vendors come in. One of them is Martin Saddlery and another I think is Cactus. They also carry Tammy Fischer treeless saddles. They may can help you fit a saddle now but I know they could in December. |
