I am looking at getting a Caldwell custom. Can someone tell me their opinion on the seat size, are they a true size? How are they compared to Slone?

Thanks

I thought they were pretty true to size based on the couple I had ridden in the past.  I recently bought one from Charon and it was sold to me as a 14.5".  it felt snug to me so I measured it and from the pommel to the padding it was a 13.5".  but when I sent her the pictures she said she doesn't measure from the front of the pommel to the padding she measures from the bottom of the horn to the padding.....   I am not sure because my friend has a couple older ones that have the seat size on the stamp and they measure that size the way I measure....

I just recently saw a brand new one for sale that is marked a 14.5 but the owner is selling because she said it fit too snug. On her tape it looked like a 13.5.

I have a 15" and its a tiny snug on me, I think it just depends on how much padding you get in the seat. I ride all my saddles in a 14.5 to 15" but this Caldwell does seen a tiny bit tighter, but I really think it has to do with padding.

The seat size will vary depending on how high a rise you get, and if the swells are undercut or not.

Exactly. I like a 14.5" and my Caldwell is a 14.75" and has a high rise that takes up just enough to make my seat perfect.

The TG's run big because of the undercut swells. A 14" seat felt like a 14.5" to me.

What happened to your PSC saddle? I thought you were very happy with it? I know some people are going to them over the Caldwells as they feel they are nicer then the current Caldwells being made.

Depends on which tree and the ground seat rise. The TGs are undercut swells, I can ride true to size in them. The rocket, promax ect I need at least a half size larger or an inch if the ground seat is high.

May be a stupid question but are they more expensive than the Caldwell?

I have priced out both, and price wise, they may be a few hundred dollars cheaper.

Both are actually cheaper then Tod Slone custom

Dang, that's hard to believe!!! I wish I'd gotten a PSC when they were reasonable. Prices got stupid real quick on them and now they are almost same price as a Caldwell.

I have never priced a new Caldwell but I got my PSC when they went by H3 and they were much cheaper then they are now....   Which is why I wasn't able to get another when I needed a 2nd saddle.  and they are new enough that, there aren't that many used ones out there.  and the used ones I found are priced almost as high as a new one...  I do love mine though.

I agree- I had an H3 at a fair price, sold it too cheap now that the PSC are almost double what I paid for mine. Had I known I would have not sold it for less than I gave- I prob could have made $$$ on it. So all things being equal, I would buy a Caldwell. I tried the H3 because of price. I will however say that they have superior customer service. But they only have 2 trees. Twisted and flat, where Caldwell has at least twice that.

If you talk to Charon, you can tell her your height, weight & build & she can tell you what size seat depending on the tree & rise & grind.

When did they add two trees and what are they? When I first ordered (was H3) they only had flat and twisted.

My TG is a 14.5 and rides like a 15.5! My husband uses it, it's to big for me. My older TG wide tree is a 14 and fits perfect. My rocket is a 14.5 and really snug rides like a 13.5 :( I think it all depends on the tree and the rise.
