My farrier is out of town and I have a big rodeo sat. My horse pulled both her shoes She can be tender footed sometimes but I've been riding her barefoot the past few days . Will she be okay to run or any ideas? I've tried to get other farriers to shoe her but there's no one around her that can or will by this weekend.

I would say if she's sore at all I wouldn't, but if she seems fine I would... Not sure how the ground will b at that rodeo but if its soft she'll b ok

My colt just threw his front shoes (doesnt have backs) and I cruised him through last night barefoot and I am taking him to a jackpot tonight. The ground tonight is sandy and soft but my ground at my house was dry and shallow. He did fine. I think its just what you think your horse can handle. If his feet are tough enough to run on the rodeo ground or not. My colts feet chipped a little on the end but nothing a rasp cant clean up. Same deal for me, my farrier can not come till next week. Probably not much help on answering your question. but I feel your concern.

My mare is barefoot. She is almost always sore on hard ground. But I'm not going to justify putting shoes on her when her club foot causes her to need re-shod every 4 weeks. Otherwise she pulls shoes. $110 every month for shoes? Not for me.

Arena ground tends to be soft. So as long as she's sound, go for it. You never know, she may do even better....

Depends on the ground at the rodeo. If it's a rocky, hard-grounded place I would say no. If the dirt is soft and she doesn't feel ouchie at all when you ride her she will probably be fine.

I will say though, my mare clocks better with shoes on. She is 100% sound when she's barefoot, even across gravel, but something about the way the ground feels to her when she runs barefoot makes her almost safety up in her turns.

If the ground is decent where you're hauling it should be fine, Just make sure there aren't any nails stuck in the hoof from the shoe. I've had that happen before, caused an abcess

Depends on what her feet look like after pulling her shoes. If they came off clean, the ground would be good, and she seems unaffected...perhaps. But my horses rarely have perfectly balanced feet after pulling shoes, so I'd be cautious, as running them unbalanced can sore one up in a hurry.

I had a friend that pulled into a rodeo one time and her horse pulled a shoe while he was backing out of the trailer.  She wrapped the foot in duct tape ran and won the barrel race.
