Location: Texas | TAHC has confirmed 14 new cases of Vesicular Stomatitis in both horses and cows in S. and Central Texas. I read where its very easy to contract, just by a fly bite. |

Location: southeast Texas | Vesicular Stomatitis usually occurs between late spring and early fall. The seasonal time frame of outbreaks lends to the theory that insects serve as vectors. Phlebotomine sandflies are responsible for the spread of one type of VS. In addition, mechanical vectors such as shared feed tubs and water troughs, or exposure to saliva or fluids from lesions can increase transmission potential of VS. People can become infected and pass the virus between horses. The virus cannot, however, pass through intact skin; it is opportunistic, and thus may enter through a break in the skin or a wound. This may be an important consideration if horses are being vaccinated in the vicinity of infected animals. |

 I Am Always Right

Location: stray dump capital of the world | Have 11 horses and only 1 of mine contracted it. They suspect that my next door neighbor's horse contracted it first. Prior to ours, there were 3 confirmed cases 10 miles from us. None of these horses had left the properties where they reside. It is a fluke and hit and miss. It is also a PITA as I was quarantined for slightly over a month, but the upside is it was hotter than Hades and I had no desire to haul. My mare bounced back rather quickly. My neighbor's horse took a bit more time. |

Location: Texas | I'm not hauling anywhere and neither are any of my close friends.
Figure it's better to wait it out than risk sick horses and quarantine |
