Red Wasps attacked my horse today! Die Wasps Die!

Early this morning husband and I saw our bay mare leave her stall / barn flying.... like her tail was on fire. She is known to love to "just run" for the fun of it. Later while mowing the pasture I noted she stood around for a long, long time very quiet and rolled a couple of times. I kept a close eye on her throughout the day as I mowed. She grazed and every now and then would go to the barn, stand and look at her stall, then turn and run again like her tail was fire. Weird. Well.... I NOW KNOW what the he** was going on. I discovered a large wasp nest just under a board in the door of her stall that exits to her run. They swarmed me when I walked outside the stall door. I called my mare up to feed and she would not come any closer than about 30 ft. -- standing there like "Help me." I promptly soaked that nest and got rid of it, then gave her a good going over. She had numerous welts on her body. I bet she had been stung a dozen times. No wonder she was acting like her tail was on fire. It was! Thankfully, her stall is on the end of the barn and she has another exit door straight into the pasture -- which I have opened for her and she very gratefully is using it. She is eating her dinner now in her stall and got some alfalfa in her hay as a special compensation for her TERRIBLE day. Tomorrow I will be soaking the entire barn
(again! did that a few weeks ago when red wasps nailed me out of the blue
).

Something got my big boy the other day. Not sure if it was in his stall or if he got it while out in the pasture but he had about 7 welts on his neck. Poor baby

Bless her heart. I hate to see them get hurt like that--we want the barn to be their safe place.
Wasps have taken over my barn this summer too--it's crazy. I couldn't get my truck unhooked to go to work Friday because in the 2 days it had been parked, wasps had moved into the trailer hitch and we were out of spray. I had to take the Polaris Ranger. LOL
