Expert Posts: 1561 Location: North of where I want to be	I need suggestions on how to integrate dogs. My SO & I are consolidating households. He has 4 dogs(3 shorthairs & a beagle). I have 3(a lab, a heeler, a dobi). We are bringing my dogs in one at a time, starting with my Dobi male. His dogs have free choice feed all day. My guys have a scheduled routine.While I have never had any food agression issues I was wonder if anyone had any pointer on this scenario & how to make the adjustment easier?

California Cowgirl Posts: 14973 Location: California	I always introduce dogs at a neutral location (river , lake , park , baseball field etc and I always keep them on leash despite what people say about leash aggression ) . I always start with my easy going dog and pair those with other easy going dogs as the more explosive personalities get introduced last so that we don't start off the new integration with some tension and the remaining meet and greets are already heightened. I have 4 of my own PitBulls who are here to stay for life , two of which are very food aggressive prior to coming into my household. I ALWAYS feed dogs in their own seperate crates or bedroom with doors closed . I always crate dogs when I am not home . If none of your dogs are crate trained and do fine with their current pack then I would seperate your dogs and his dogs when you are not home or supervising . I would remove any toys , bones , balls , dog beds for a few weeks to eliminate any territory or possession issues. Get all your dogs on the same feeding schedule . Dogs can transition from free feeding to schedules easily , they will learn quick enough that food is available for a certain amount of time. If they choose to turn their nose up to it then they eat again tomorrow . I would also make your kitchen off limits to all dogs . I would go slow and realize that it may take a while until you are comfortable with all 7 of them running together. 7 dogs is a large integration project . You can have very easy going dogs in the current packs but a small scuffle between two can easily turn into 7 when they come to the defense of their buddies . I would go buy a bottle or citronella spray ($10 at the pet store) just in case you need to break up an argument easily . If not that at least keep a hose handy . I would be careful if the dogs are used to sleeping in bed with you as that is the #1 area I have ran into problems with territory . Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you have any issues .
