I think I'm the only one I know that didn't win any money at ANHA!

Good - My 11yo daughter had a great weekend.  She ran her personal best pole time, 21.5 on Friday night, qualified for the Pole Shootout with Sunday's run.  She came back (from a dismal Elite in July, hitting 3 out 4 runs and having horrible 1st barrels), and ran three respectable, pretty, smooth, consistent barrel runs with 18.3, 18.0, 18.0.  She won enough to pay her fees.
Bad - I didn't take her reins up for the poles shootout on Monday as much I usually do (even after she questioned me on it) and she tipped the middle turn pole with her hand making the turn.
Ugly - I had to tell her what I did after watching the video and seeing her and her horse work just like they always do but with her hand having to be out further....
Good - My 24yo mare ran her usual consistent 18.5, 18.7, and then 18.3.  She's like comfort food there.  She ran 23.0, 22.8, and 22.9 in poles.
Bad - She is really tired of poles of so only one run was clean.
Ugly - She actually trots during the poles and still runs those times.  It's not a pretty thing to watch.
Good - My 5yo crackhead mare finished out by running an 18.7 in barrels on Sunday and actually looked like she had seen the barrel pattern before.  She ran 6 clean patterns, all weekend, both barrels and poles.
Bad - She got introduced to calming powder, ace, being 'loped down' prior to running, and a heavier bit after Friday night.
Ugly - Our Friday night run in the barrels was a 28...  our pole run was faster than that!

How was yours????

I will say this chasen-reading your review makes me tired.  I thought running three horses was tiring but your schedule wears me out just by thinking about it!!!

I am happy we got to chat for a tad bit sunday.  Next year I am going to stay there and hopefully hang out with more people!

liven - you're right about that.  That is one of the reasons I keep running the 24yo.  She's the healthiest and hardiest horse I have and I want to keep it that way.  I might have retired her from poles though after this weekend.   :)  She used to be a solid low 21 and I ran a 21 on her last year but... this year has been more hits than clean runs.

sassy - I didn't camp there the first year we went either.  I changed my ways....  :)  With 6 runs a day between us, it is pretty busy.  I got a break this year with Chase finally being big enough to saddle her own horse and almost get her wraps on decently.

Looks like you had a lotof good moments!  My barrels were terrible, I hit 5 out of the 6 runs.  My runs Sunday were not bad, just needed 1/2 step more, rookie errors and inexperience got me.  My horses were wanting to turn on that big pattern and I was wanting to sit and not fall off instead of driving them :).

Ouch.  That could get tough on the knees!  It's amazing how expensive that last 1/2 step is.  I'm so glad my daughter got that little kink worked out since her runs in July.  My old horse was literally rubbing my legs on the barrels by Sunday with me up and pushing all the way.  I even nearly came off of her around the 2nd because I was up and forward, trying to keep pushing that last step out of her.

My main horse is out with an injury, so I took my young mare. She obviously felt way too good and tried to buck me off in the warm up pen on Saturday. Needless to say, I took her really slow through my run so she wouldn't think about breaking in two again. Luckily, we ran at 1 AM so there weren't too many people around to watch our pathetic attempt at a "run." Sunday went much better. She didn't get any grain and I have her some ulcer and calming meds. We took a ton if time off of our Saturday run, but I was still too much of a chicken to push her. We didn't win a thing, but I was still happy with the difference in my horse on Sunday. It was a confidence boost for both of us and I know next time I can go in and actually make a run.

Now I have to disagree.... so the barrels didnt go all that well... tell the pole bending story!

Okay I have one that might top yours :)

So I ride a 1D gelding, problem is he is not easy to ride and doesn't run those times unless I get myself together in the pattern. He's also been struggling with soreness lately so I haven't had alot of ride time. Well I was a nervous wreck friday night. I forgot my helmet that I haven't ran without in 2 years. So I warmed my horse up and just cruised through. We ran an 18.7 with still hitting the wall on the first barrel BUT he felt awesome and overturned the 2nd bumping it on the back(he hasn't been finishing it lately so this was nice). Then Saturday we hit the 2nd and just cruised from there and ran a 18.0 still hitting the wall on the first.. So I figured Sunday I had to step up my game. Were making a nice pattern and when I get to the third for literally no reason at all I fell off. I still haven't quite figured out what happened. Anyways I laughed it off... Im a little scared as to why I just randomly fell, Im almost convinced I was so focused about not hitting the 2nd that I literally just stopped riding.

eta: The absolute best part of my weekend was watching my bestfriend win poles, she deserved it so much and hearing my bestfriends name get called as the winner is about as good as hearing my own so dispite my crappy riding, we still had an awesome weekend!

outrun - I love that "I just randomly fell".  It is a blessing that you could laugh it off and know that we ALL have those times that we join the 'arena floor inspector" club.

Yes, I've never had a fall where I wasn't injured, and have always had really good balance so this was just kind of a freak thing. The craziest part to me is that my usual prayer before my run asks fo "a smooth, safe run to the best of both me and my horses ability" and on sunday everything was so hectic at ANHA anyways all I said was "please keep me and my horse safe and I will trust that whatever happens is in your plan". Weird prayer to say and then fall off and not get a single scratch or bruise.. I think anyway... I'm new to being religious and prayer but i've been going to church lately and bringning god into my life has just been crazy! I always thought it was stupid and just sorta had my own thing going but wow, I am a believer now!!!
