Thank you all for the help! Sorry I haven't gotten to check this until now we've been pounding the pavement checking mileage, etc!  We have looked at close to 20 properties since Monday!!  I apologize for not putting the area specifics- we are measuring the distance to the Will Rogers airport as the criteria as the distance that hubby will be driving daily.  We currently don't have any horses that will be moving with us for awhile but have 2 dogs & lots of stuff! The renting for alittle bit maybe the way we will need to go but it will have to be Month to month while we house search.

We will be using a VA loan so that has to meet certain criteria.  We did find something we like everything but the distance.  It's about 35 miles = 42 minutes without traffic so we are trying to see if we want to sacrifice more true country living for gas mileage!  It seems OKC area is very built up in all directions.  Several places even had HOA & no livestock!!

Oh I forgot to put in that we've been searching on zillow, realtors and even openhouseok. We also have a realtor who's been putting up with us in our search as well.  The good news is it seems OKC area is in demand and growing so hopefully if we have to sell later on we shouldn't have as much problems selling....

Many people don't realize how much land in Oklahoma is becoming zoned as residential, but not agricultural. So much land being sold has HOA rules, fees, or both with limits on livestock if any allowed at all. They are regulated what type of home and buildings you can put on the property as well. It's like they've forgotten they are "in the country". People who want to live in the country, but not really.

Exactly!  It's funny when I moved here I thought there would be rentals with land to who laid the rail and cheap propertys...but you do get what you pay for!  schools and such all come into play.
I am more on the south side of OKC and getting to know this area as I just moved, but you are already on some great sites!  Hopefully u find something really soon, you can also surf FB a little bit for OKC rentals and such or craiglist, I always forget CL lol

We are in Piedmont. When we first moved here we lived in Yukon. We wanted the school districts. Stumbled across the 5 acres we rent now. Coming from San Diego, we never imagined it would be hard to find country property. But, it is easier in San Diego to find rental horse property

We will be in the same boat next year, going VA looking for home w/ about 5 acres in OKC area (we like north of I40 and west of I35.  If you have found any specific VA requirements pertaining to purchase of this type of property I'd love to know (you can pm me).  I've heard it can be difficult if the property has over 5 acres.

We found our dream home on 10 acres with the option to buy 10-20 more acre tracks to it....the down fall.... It's outside of Blanchard about 20 minutes to a small grocery store (not bad) but anywhere from 40-45 min drive to Will Rogers airport!  We both LOVE this land.  Hunting or shooting wouldn't be a problem just the gas & cost per week or even yr costs on a vehicle/ mileage will be outrageous.  We did calculate it.

We we also love a house in Moore. 1.9 mile from town but only 5 acres (very good layout of the land for that small) already fenced for horses quiet neighborhood at a dead end street (not HOA) but just outside our current budget  but it's close to everything, still have horses & some quiet. We also see this place increasing in value possibly. We have had everyone tell us to avoid  Moore because of the tornados but this house was built in 1979 so I think it's been missed by the storms!

we are still looking and considering but it seems very limited. Either the houses need major updating or outside our price for limited acres. We went to look at 8 acres in Blanchard to find out it sold yesterday!

We haven't had any issues regarding acreage for a VA loan but we haven't used it for that yet!  Our realtor said that's not a problem but it can't be "as is" condition.  We looked at some that my not pass an inspection which means VA won't finance.  I don't think it will let you get into any fore closures either.

Not trying to scare any one but Moore has been hit by the biggest tornadoes twice in the last 8 years... Just saying.
