This may be a dumb question, but since I have come back to barrel racing after taking 7 years off to take kids to high school rodeos, I can seem to sit in my turn and my mare really wants to turn out from under me. There fore, I feel I am coming off or I pull on the reins to get my balance. I tell myself to sit and really pull with my horn, but I cant get it. Or I get it for a couple of runs and then its gone again. Any suggestions?

Build muscle memory doing slow work.  I don't care if its at a walk you go through the exact same motions you do during a run until its stuck in your head.

Instead of pulling on the horn, push on it. I was taught to pull up leaving the barrel and push down to keep your butt in the saddle during the turn.

I wonder if you need a saddle with a deeper seat to help? I have the opposite problem, I sit too much..lol

Before you go looking for another saddle, try letting your stirrups down a notch or two. They may be too short.

Like another person said, try maybe lowering your stirrups. I ride in a Shiloh by Cecil Phillips. It sits me back and deep quite a bit. I also have a Sady Lane which is very similar to Triple Creek.

I also have a friend who drilled it in my head to sit sit sit. After I flew off my free running mare in the turn, I really had to change my way of riding.

I have a problem sitting in the first turn. Then after I bobbled all over the place, regained balance, and a few choice words, I usually remember to sit the second two.
