Location: Probably On the Road to the Next Barrel Race! | Three weeks ago my mare completely rubbed out her mane and tail in one week. i used fungicide, iodine baths, steroid shots, and finally some iv drug called copper something which was supposed to kill the "bugs" or whatever that were irritating her. That's been a week, and she's still rubbing, getting small raw places on her face and neck. Maybe my vet is not up on something new and upcoming....any ideas out there? Please!

| There used to be a bug i dont know how to spell it (oncochirco) something like that had a thorobred and had a friend that was a pharmicist, he had a nice arab that had it. They would itch to no end. I think ivermectrim when it first came out got rid of that bug. That poor pharmacist this is before internet, tried everything on that mare, and she gave the big oak tree in my field heck. My thorobred had no hair on her face and under her belly. | |

Location: Finally horseback again.... | My head horse did this really bad this year. I did the same thing, tried everything, shots, topicals, fungicides, betadine baths, allergy shots, prednisone, even accupuncture. Nothing worked and he was miserable.
Took him to Dr Todd in Athens and he walked in, looked at him and stated flat out, it is a fungus. Treated him with IV does of Sodium Iodide to jump start his immune system and round of dexamethasone. 10 ml for 5 days, 5 ml for 5 days and 2 ml for 5 days. He hasnt itched since the second day and he is 3 1/2 weeks since initial treatment and his hair is already growing back
