Horse had a terrible wreck while barrel racing and found out she has a fractured rear cannon bone and front coffin bone. Vet doesnt seem that concerned and said 2 months stall rest and will re xray. Also gave me equical to put her on. Ive been using my BOT religiously, however I have never had a horse with these kind of injuries and was wondering if there is ANYTHING else I can do to reassure the healing process?

I can't help with the cannon bone fracture, but I had a 4 year old that fractured her coffin bone in the pasture. I took her to Oakridge Vet Clinic in Edmond, OK and he had me put a special shoe on her with, high toe clips to stabilize her foot, and then stall rest. She had quit limping after about a week to ten days with the shoe, and on her re-check she had healed amazingly well and went on to be 100 percent. I attribute the shoes to the fast recovery, and that vet clinic is phenomenal.

I think time is your friend.  Both should heal with time.  The fracture point of the cannon bone will be stronger than ever when it remodels in the healing process and the coffin bone fracture, as long as it's non-articular, should heal fine also.  I had a horse with a n/a coffin bone fracture and he healed to be completely sound.

I have had 2 horses with cannon bone fractures, the first one vet drilled holes in the cannon bone to release bone marrow, I was riding her in 6 weeks, competing on in 3 months

The other got tildren then generic stem cells injected into the fracture, this fracture was bad, it was a spiral and I was told when I dropped him off the next week his leg could snap off, I think it was around 3 months and he was back running.

Both have been running for a few years with no complications
