Has anyone had experience with a good bit for a super soft and supple horse who doesn't follow their nose very well? I have been riding this mare all summer and have been really working on getting her to follow her nose around. She is getting better but like most colts when it comes to race day and going fast she starts to forget things. I'm not looking for a harsh bit or quick fix, just something she will respond differently to. I feel like a snaffle has too much lateral for her, a combo is too much pressure on her nose, draw gags cause her to carry her head too low and she does not like much pressure from the curb. So far my sharon camarillo sweet six with a leather curb is what she responds best to. (And she is up to date on all dental) I have a couple good ones in mind to try but I would like to see what other people have had good luck with before I start buying. :)

Sounds more like you need to keep some outside rein contact and direct her shoulders with what ever bit you are using on her. Get her front end lifted back up so she can follow her nose.

A short shank mullen mouth bit. I think connie combs makes one in a 5" and 7".

I like the Goosetree simplicity with the chain link in the middle....or a side pull

I'm having this same problem with my gelding he is very light and sensitive, super bendy, and ratey! I ride in a chain mouth Rosie gag and a wide 2 curb, not a narrow one chain. its a little more forgiving with my hands in a run. Plus I use two hands and a little more out side rein in my dry work and practice. I do drills working on roll backs and working more on their haunches and on turning with their shoulder up and square and straighter,I'm looking for a floating feel to their front end, not a heavy turney feel on the front if that makes since? Lol

Now if I could just do more of what I just said, on this horse!
Then Yeah!!!

Of corse it always seems like trial and pilot error! But at the end of the day always
know your trying and farther along than someone who isn't!
