Location: California | For those that have used Previcox, what are your experiences with it? I'm wondering if this could help my mare out with some hock pain. I have injected her hocks before but I'm trying to see if there is anything else I can do to help her. |

| It helps keep my old guy with a chip in his knee comfortable- did not help my gelding who is fusing at all- had to inject him. |

Ditto this. I have one of our old girls here on it. She fell last winter on the ice and tore herself up pretty good. We had her on a gram of bute a day and of course that was tearing her stomach up. So we put her on Previcox and she is holding very well. It does not bring the gastric issues with it so it is a great alternative to bute for long term "help". However I dont think it is quite as strong a anti-inflamatory as bute, but it is a close second. |

I agree. My 18 year old mare with all sorts of issues, knee, feet and hocks is on it. Occasionally, when I think it's kind of losing "oomph" I'll give her a 3 day dose. I use the large tablet cut into quarters. About every 3 months I'll give her a loading dose. I'm sure my quartering of tablets isn't exact... |

 You get what you give

Location: Texas | we run our horses on it. We have all teenaged mares, except for Buns who is 11. It doesn't replace injections but it's a safer alternative on their kidneys and gut than bute (although you can still do damage with previcox if you don't follow the directions, just like any NSAID).
I think it's great for a horse who doesn't have anything REALLY going on but may get body sore or has some arthritis. I know for one of my horses, she has a bad hock from an injury and nothing really replaces the benefit of her injections. When she is due, she is due, and there's not much going to make a change other than an injection. |
