Veteran Posts: 187	Someone told me that AQHA runs a special sometimes for registering older geldings. Just wondering if this was true? We just bought a 5 year old gelding that goes back to Smart Little Lena (supposedly) but the previous owner couldn't get to the application. (Going through a divorce and shoved a bunch of stuff in a storage shed and the desk is in the very back) Papers don't matter to us, but would sure help if we decide to sell him later....

The Color Specialist Posts: 7530 Location: Washington. (The DRY side.)	Yes, that's true. (It's actually ALL older horses, not just geldings.) They did it for a few years. Not sure if they are doing it this year or not. (I'm thinking not, but could be wrong.)

The main problem with registering over the age of 2 is you need parentage verification, you need to make sure both sire and dams DNA is on file, as I have found more then not when people say paperwork in order, the mare doesn't have DNA on file, and has deceased, then you are SOL.

It's not horses over 2yo, it's horses that are 4yo (48 months) or older. That must be parentage verified prior to registration. Others only have to be done if they resulted via shipped semen, have too much white, etc....

Veteran Posts: 187	Yeah, I was worried about the DNA and stuff too! Probably won't ever get him registered. Why do people NOT register their well bred horses?!
