Negatives, I have owned 2 daughters and they produced nice babies if crossed right, crossed wrong and you have a hot blooded, panic over nothing fool.
Of all the Special Effort grand get we have had, HC's are the least favorite. Just cross them on something very very sensible. My Burrs First Down stud did really well with them. Loved all his babies by them, the Rare Form stud put a bunch of additional temper and flight in them, No thank you!

| I have a AAA Hot Colours daughter out of a AAA On A High mare and she is easy to deal with. I have had one weanling by a son of Four Roan Fly out of her and she was easy to handle and very gentle. I think there are 3 full siblings to the weanling I had and they were all very athletic, gentle and showing promise on barrels. I bred her back to FG this year and I'm interested to see this baby. The only fault is she has crappy feet but doesn't pass it on to her foals. I have a gdaughter of HC out of another mare and she also has the same crappy feet so I'm not sure if it's the HC bloodline or just luck ? Lol

Location: Desert Land | I'm picking up a FG daughter out of a Hot Colours mare next week. She is a 1D futurity $$ earner. She's going to be a broodmare now because she has an injury, had surgery and still isn't quite sound. |

Both of mine had crappy feet too. To the point of founder. One we suspect had Insulin resistance. None of the babies had bad feet and I am in contact with several owners. One was off the track and I wonder if she didn't have an injury cause her founder. The track mare loved people, the other wanted to be left alone. |

| I have a Hot Colours gelding that is out of a FG daughter and I absolutely adore him! He is the most laid back sweet natured boy you could ever meet, his quirks are he gets a bit hotter at a barrel race, not bad at all, just from the slow moving at home trail horse he livens up. His other quirk is he gets scared to death of anything that is set down in front of him, for example, if you take his bridle off and drop it while you put his halter on, you may as well of thrown a snake at his feet. Lol. He just hates anything in front of him while he's tied up. Now he will stand tied up all day long asleep at the trailer, but throw something at his front feet and he will be scared to death. I would not trade him for anything though! |

I'm hoping maybe I'll get to buy her :)
She belongs to a friend of mine and she's letting me borrow her to breed to DTF. I am super excited about that cross. |

Location: Denver, but a Nebraska native -- GO BIG RED!!! | I had a daughter of Hot Colours who was out of an own daughter of Rocket Wrangler. She was a complete idiot. Scared of everything. She eventually managed to get into a fence and cut her leg off. I don't know why she was this way. Could have been that she was mistreated before I owned her. |

I talked to a race trainer that had a few of them and a few Corona Cartels and actually a little bit of everything, but his favorite were the CC and his least favorite were the HC. He gave a scenerio where you could be walking down an alley way and if something scares a HC, in their mind, you are no longer there. They would just run you over. He said the same thing could happen to a CC and they may dance all over, but you have their respect and they will do anything but try and step on you. I really see that with my 2 HC I owned, always had to pay attention to what they were gawking at. |

^^^^^I have a Special Show mare like this. Just as easy as she can be, but when something rattles her look out. I explain her as, her feet are faster than her brain. She does throw excellant babies out of a Sun Frost stud though. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | We now have a daughter of Special Leader that is super special, I mean that in a good way and an Ivory James mare that is out of a SL daughter as well. Both are sweet and sane. After the HC mares, my husband was reluctant to try anymore SE grandget. He has always wanted a Strawfly Special, hope they are nice. |
