Veteran Posts: 113 Location: Tx	Tell me about your "long term" experience with them? I will possibly be adopting a horse that retired from the track with one. This was 2 years ago. Anything I need to know now, since he has already had time off and been started retraining to be adopted out? When I say "retraining" I mean basics and desensitizing, no hard work.

The Advice Guru Posts: 6419	I would ultrasound it to see how much scar tissue is present. If minimal, the horse may stay sound competitive, if legged up properly. If there is a lot of scar tissue, probably a trail horse.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 448 Location: lone star state	We use good wraps (favorite are classic equine) wrapped properly or PROPERLY applied polos when exercising and 3 degree shoes to continually support the tendons.

Regular Posts: 56	My off the track Standardbred bowed a tendon many years ago. He recovered and went back to the track and raced for several more years. I adopted him a couple months ago after his last career race as a 12 year old. I trail ride him now and he is completely sound. He needed corrective shoes for racing but I trail ride him barefoot without any issues.

Veteran Posts: 113 Location: Tx	Mostly trail horse for my husband and kids. I did find out today when I went to look at him that he has had some training jumping last year.
