Ok I will start by saying I have the vet coming out tomorrow at two but wondering if anyone has ran across this.

I noticed a week ago my geldings eyes looked a little leaky(not enough to be concerned so I thought) but he seemed to be more irritable and itchy on one side. I wrote it off as his normal pushy attitude cleaned his eyes with clean warm water and called it good. He was fine for a few days and then yesterday I noticed the area right below his lacrimal ducts was much more crusty than before. Cleaned him up again and decided to keep an eye on it. Today after work I noticed his lids, mainly bottom, were severely swollen, dried crusty substance surrounding outside of eye and on lashes and area of knee where he was rubbing, as well as a white-ish opaque discharge along swollen bottom lid.

Anyone have experience with this. As I mentioned I do have a vet on the way but I want to find out as much as I can prior to the visit.

could be a number of things.  could be a clogged tear duct that needs flushed.  watch that if hes scratching it alot that he doesnt do more damage.  my vet told me once give 5ccs of banamine paste then call me for eye issues.   this was when she had ran something in and a light cloud was starting to form.

She could have something inside her eyelid scratching it. Could be an infection, severe allergies, tear duct blocked. Could even be a worm that gets inside the eye. The key things with eyes so they don't go blind is getting them to the vet EARLY and aggressive treatment. I saved both of my mare's eyes this way when she scratched her corneas.

I had a horrendous problem last winter with an older gelding.  White patch, redness, watering.  Vet said banamine and an ointment.  A thread regarding eye problems came up on this forum and a BB told us that was all wrong.....penicillin was the answer.  I'll be danged if she wasn't 100% correct and a problem we'd been fighting for weeks went away in a few days with penicillin shots.

one of our older gelding does that every time this time of year and come spring. lasts a few days and then goes away. I clean it up twice a day and put a cold towel on it. His is really itchy too so I figured allergies.
