Location: Oregon | I recently started my lame mare on previcox and was wondering every ones experiences with it. The good, the bad, and hopefully not the ugly. :-) I was also interested in starting my old guy on it if he was I guess a good candidate. Lol. He has arthritis. Any way thank you in advance! |

| I have used it daily in the past for several months and ultimately it did cause my horse severe gastric distress. But now I use it few days before a run and couple days after with great results. It is way safer than Bute but it's still an Nsaid. |

Location: Oregon | Good to hear and to know. May I ask why you started to use it in the first place? Just curious wether it was like arthritis or what ever :-)... Do you use it with any thing else? |

I currently have 3 on it: My old retired arthritic mare gets around great with it, my 14 year old barrel horse rides "softer", and my crippled other barrel horse in the hopes that it might make her rideable again. |

Location: lone star state | I use it for arthritis symptoms and was prescribed by my vet who instructed me on the dosage for daily use. So far I have had no negative side effects and have used it for at least a year. Seek a sports medicine vet who can evaluate your needs and educate you on what is best for your horse.
I have also used it under the supervision and direction of my vet as a part of an epm treatment on an 8 year old gelding. I have found it to be a great pain and inflamation reliever for horses.

Location: East Texas | We got an older horse last year that was on 2 meds and several supplements for arthritis. She had been stalled for most of her life..... Well, we keep her turned out 24/7. Now that she can move around all she wants, the symptoms have almost disappeared. We have cut her down to 1/4 pill of previcox per day and have seen no ill side affects. |

Location: Kansas (but Great Lakes member since 1978) | Previcox is not USDA approved for horses and is "off label" prescribed. That is actually not legal. Equinox is the USDA form for horses. Just wanted you to know that as off label usage is something that could get your vet in trouble. You certainly don't want that to happen. |

| Yep, my vet also has seen my dog. She gives it to me and its my responsibility if I give it to my horse instead. LOL |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Just a heads up and we dont' know if its the cause or just a coincident, but my mare that had to have Previcoxx daily for a little over a year after she fractured her patella has both kidney and bladder stones. All 3 of my horses are on the same diet, the gelding and my other mare are full siblings and this mare is out of the same dam. She is the only one with the stones. Love the product but I'd be careful of using it daily for extremely extended periods. |

Location: In the wrong place at the wrong time | I am using it on the horse in my avatar, he was to the point that I was considering putting him down because he was three legged lame( from arthritis in his hock) more often than not.
We are about 45 days in and he's getting around a lot better. :-) |

Location: Woodstown, NJ | I just started using it on a horse that we think has navicular. He has heel pain. His X-rays were inconclusive and he's never actually been lame, but he stumbles to the point of being unsafe. However, he also had badly underrun heels--was literally on his walls in the back. New farrier fixing that. We put him on Isoxuprine and Bute at first. I felt like I had a new horse. Then we switched the Bute to the Previcox because we were worried about ulcers. He continued to do well. Then I quit him because he was acting up and I was going to just retire him (I have a broken back so didn't want to mess with him and his quirky ways) so I didn't call the vet for more medicine when we ran out. But then I found the new farrier and felt hopeful about finally getting his feet fixed right so I thought I'd try riding him again. Restarted him on both the Isoxuprine and the Previcox but this time he is not doing any better. I'm wondering if I have to start out with the Bute first or the good results last time was just coincidence or the new farrier isn't doing as good a job as I think? I don't know. Glad to hear the Previcox is working for others though. Gives me hope. |

Location: Oregon | I got a tad busy sorry I havent replied! Im glad quite a few people so far have good results and its good to hear about the bad ones as well. As for my mare she has been on it for about two weeks. And let me tell ya she is getting fiesty on it! LOL . Almost want to start working her just a little bit walk and trot at the most. Because even going out during the day she wants to play with me and run in the arena after if I put her in there. I will definitely look up old threads! |
