Incredibly bummed out today.  My futurity filly was playing in her paddock last night and slammed her hip into a pipe running around a corner.  Last night she would literally walk staggering sideways.  Scared me to death thinking she broke something.  She spent the night at the vet's -DMSO IV, bute, dex.  Went to see her this morning and she walks a lot better after being given a chance to move around.  She gets stove up standing in the stall and does the staggering sideways walk (which makes me want to puke) and gradually walks out of it.  Bringing her home this afternoon, just rest and bute is about all that we can do for her.  I bought a BOT blanket today, other suggestions for helping a deep bruise heal?  She's been working really nice lately....I'm so sad that we don't get to go the the BFA now.  Looks like probably spring till I can ride again.  They do believe she'll come back 100%.  Palpated pelvis, everything seems good.

My mare fell at a big race and it took 6 weeks for her left hip to heal where she was no longer sore and could exercise lightly. It took about 12 weeks to get her to where she could compete again. Hopefully yours wont take that long. I have PHT & Back on Track blankets I alternated every day on her.

I had a gelding that hit the pipe fencing with his hip (cut the curve too close). The local vet didn't think he fractured it, but I took him to the specialist a few hours away and they did a bone scan and found that he had actually fractured it. So, just palpating the pelvis doesn't always tell the whole story. I hope your girl comes out ok.

if you have access to theraplates - that would really be great for her- I have a gelding that "while playing in pasture" slammed his hip into gate post so hard he tore muscle off his hip and ended up tearing si ligament- took me forever to figure out what he did- several vet visits and lots of $$$$ later I went to my vet that does osteopath work ( which I highly recommend) and she figured it out mine had to have 3 months off but I ordered a set of theraplates that day- and was amazed at the difference it made in 6 weeks for him and my vet was shocked too! she said she has seen other horses with this same type of injury who never recovered- --as hard as it is definitely give plenty of time off massage the area as you can for circulation and if you can get to some theraplates they do wonders for these type of injuries

She's walking 100000 times better last night/today.  Absolutely no sideways movement.  Heat is gone.  She's definitely not herself, but she trotted a few steps when we were feeding.  I have a vet appt Sat just to get another set of eyes to go over her.  I'd like to try a theraplate, but its just out of the price range for now......hubby would seriously kill me.  I can definitely work on massaging it and keep a BOT blanket on her.  I'll have a chiro go over her soon - when she's not so sore.
