I have brown hair naturally and about 10% gray. I usually pay to get highlights but at 80/100.00 it is getting expensive. I did buy some ashe blonde an dhate it as it has a red hue. Dont have a sallys close. Whats everybody hair color favorite color. Would like a medium brown then wnt to highlight with a darker color.

Pay the money to get it professionally done...then, in between, use Revlon Root Touch Up, to cover gray on your part and around face...thats what i do, and it works great! I'm fake blonde, btw...highlighted streaks over a naturally very dirt dishwater blonde base. I only get my hair done every 4-5 months. Let's face it, your hair at our age can make or break you...it's worth the $80, IMHO.

I'm cheap, plus I have no time or desire to be sitting in the hair salon every month getting my hair done. I have longish dark brown hair and I just buy a box from the store. I do my whole hair about every three months or so and in between every 4-6 weeks I just do the roots. Not quite ready to let the grey take over yet. The last time I had my hair trimmed my hairdresser said in was very healthy.

I wouldn't mind going gray if the rest of my hair would stay the same color as the roots. As it grows out it gets lighter. I don't mind black and gray but funky brown and gray does not work. I wish there was a way to just darken the dark strands.

I've been using the off the shelf color that lasts thru 28 shampoos. I've got probably 30% gray.

If you have that beautiful gray color then I think gray hair is cool.  My gray is such an ugly color it is depressing.  I have to color mine.

I have almost waist length auburn hair, almost to just over 50% gray now.  My gray is SILVER.  As in thicker silver strands.  I have been coloring since my mid 30's (lots and lots and lots of years!).  This fall I decided I have had it with coloring.  I use a natural henna product.  Tho it gives the ultimate in results, and is actually good for my hair, it is messy and takes 3 hours per coloring.  My face is shaped very much like Jamie Lee Curtis (just not as pretty, but same face shape), and we have the same silver thing going on (she and I have the same base color) so I decided a spikey pixie would be an acceptable way to get rid of all the colored hair in one fell swoop.  Then I could either keep it short or start letting it grow out again with no color.

My hubb did not go for that idea.  Yeah, I know, it's my hair.  But it would be a radical change to go from this long hair, which I've had for all but two years out of almost 30 with him.  Some things are worth a fight, some things not.  We discussed and he said when I was riding the Super Seniors (just a few more years) I could do it.
