We all have some kind of funny family mishaps on Turkey day.  I'd love to read about yours.

Not me Riden, we make Martha Stewart look bad!

(totally, totally kidding...I mean, we are probably the farthest from...) Our tradition on Thanksgiving day is to smash as many people as possible into my dad and stepmom's small farmhouse to eat her lovely, lovely cooking. Love Thanksgiving, for what it stands for, and for all of the time spent with family!

Darn.  I thought I could pass some time today laughing at all the good tales of kitchen nighmares.

When my whole family used to get together at my aunt and uncles in southern MN we would play spoons after Thanksgiving dinner. One year my uncle broke his finger and that same year we broke my aunts dining room table. My family takes the game of spoons very seriously! Ha!

This isn't a personal or family story - but I did see on tv the other night some Thanksgiving Day pranks with one being putting a Cornish game hen inside the turkey and the family told the daughter (she was in her 20's) that she must have bought a pregnant turkey!  She believed it, was crushed and upset that she killed the baby and then the family let her in on it.  It was pretty funny.  Not a very bright girl..... but very funny.

I saw that video.  I almost died.  Her reaction was pure horror.  LOL

Did you guys know you can take a whole fresh garlic and put it in a jar with a lid and shake like hell and all the cloves will peel themselves?  It's true.  LOL

Well kind of funny, when I was about 10 or 12, I was over at my friends house the evening before Thanksgiving. Her dad went downstairs to get the frozen turkey so it would thaw and coming back up the stairs he dropped it. It rolled and bounced pretty good and put a huge hole in the drywall beside the steps. He was a good sport and a funny guy and had us laughing so hard we all about wet our pants. Of course he was a carpenter so it was no big deal for him to fix something like that.

The day before thanksgiving I saw something in my front yard.  Went to look and my dogs stole someone's turkey!!  They ate the giblet package.  The wrapper said 13 pound butterball!  I was mortified.  We have no idea where they got it!  We live out in the country.  Poor people.

Good to see you again Riden... I never really appreciated all my mothers work to produce a healthy (moist) TD turkey until last year... I became friends with a young Gulf War vet and his new wife and they invited me over for TD dinner. Most of it was wonderful... but the turkey was a bit.... dry... But in her defense... It WAS her first try and not too bad at that...

One year I almost forgot to put the sugar in the pumpkin pie. I had most of the filling in the pie crust before I realized it. I also found out that my old dog (now deceased but not because of this) loved sweet potato peels.

My 15 year old nephew has learned to make moonshine, so he broke some of it out for the adults. My fiancΓ© then showed him how to blend it with wine to make a Port wine with it...must have been good, we went to bed with hangovers...

So i set the turkey carcass on the chest freezer in garage because it was late and i was tired. Figured i would take it out to the barn and give it to the barn cats to pick on the next morning.... I go to take it out this morning and the carcass is missing...but the pan and scraps are still there...like someone just lifted it out. ...My BIG german shephard apparently stole it and had his own "thanksgiving feast"

OMG this is so something that would happen to me. Did she happen to be blonde? I'm a lot smarter than most people give me credit for but my blonde hair shows very well at times. I got the shorter end of the stick when it comes to common sense but I can solve most any math or algebra problem..... as long as I have a calculator.

Thankfully, this Thanksgiving was uneventful with good food and family having fun together but.... About ten years ago, i was standing in the kitchen with a friend who was facing e oven and he asked ' is there supposed to be flames inside your oven?' The grease had spilled over from ol tom and started a full on fire. We toted a 20 lb turkey across town to finish in my daughters oven.

This one happened almost 20 years ago.  My 3 year old really wanted to help.  The grandparents were over for the first time in a couple of years, and my mom was with her new husband.  I really did it up, nicely set table, great food.  My son was taking a plate of deviled eggs to the table, and just before he got there he tipped the plate and they fell on the floor.  As they were hitting the ground that sweet little angel let out a "ah $hit" in the perfect reflection and tone.  lol  I didn't realize how often I used that word.  He had never said it before.  Lost mother of the year for that one.  :

This year we had a kind of humorous thanksgiving dinner my mom has always cooked the turkey and it has ALWAYS been dry. She's also always abided by the 180 degree rule... Well this year we found out that the 180 degree rule only applies if you stick the little thermometer thing in the thigh and she has always stuck it in the breast which makes the top temperature 165 degrees! We had a moist turkey this year!

Every year when we put the bird in and it's about half way done we do a 5 dollar bet on what time it will be fully cooked, and everybody picks their time. Some years when we have a really full house it makes for a pretty big pot! It always makes for some good Thanksgiving fun while we all wait for dinner.

Years ago we were smoking the turkey on the front deck and my mother in law woke us up to tell us the deck was on fire. Somehow the turkey had rolled out of the smoker. My dad was coming for dinner and I knew he would freak that there had been a fire, so we fixed the deck AND stained it along with cooking Thanksgiving dinner all before dad got there!
