Can't get the pic to load but.... The bits with the metal ring that goes all the way around the lower jaw. Please explain them to me. I'm intrigued.

I'm not a racing person and not totally sure but I think that they are for tongue displacement.

sounds like a ring bit  it was used on horses with a tougher mouth that liked to pull. at least thAT The way it was in 70 when was  i exercise boy

It was used on horses I rode to help me control them.  The couldn't grab it like a reg. bit and helped me have rate when schooling and stopping power.

not goint to argue with  you but i rode race horses at los al bay meadow did it for a living for or 5 yrs quarter horses . i am going to tell you they will
and can run off woyj this bit and anything else . there is not a man or woman alive that can hold a horse if they don/t want to.

it does help a puller but if they want to they will . i got  on an ave of 10 to 20 a day from 5am till 10am 6 days a week

I was always told it kept them from putting their tongue over the bit. Don't know if it ever worked.
