How do you do it? Do you breeze them a few times? Or do you give a supplement pre run? Just looking for opinions to see what others are doing. I do see people giving things iv which I'm not interested in. Just seeing what others do to keep the competitive edge.

First step - breeze 'em. This will get them listening to you and waiting for the "go" to run. Be sure to do it in a safe place outside of an arena so that they can really stretch their stride. Tracks are preferred but I also like a nicely picked bean field as it's flat and has soft dirt.

Then race against another horse - you'll be surprised how the competitive spirit comes out after a few runs.

I also make sure mine has plenty of alfalfa the morning of a competition. I also will double dose calf manna and platinum supplement. Mind you these are products she gets daily, I only double them the morning of a competition. IMO they just give her that much more edge :) I am strictly talking about a seasoned 14 y.o mare here ... not a fresh, newbie at all.
