I'm planning a trip to Calgary for next year...Where is the main hotel where everyone stays? I need ideas on where to stay, where to eat, what to do (other than the rodeo), etc. Which are the best seats - south track or north track- which is closest to barrels? Also, do you have to buy separate tickets to the chuck wagon race?

ANY info about this rodeo trip would be great!!! Thanks!

If you go to the Chuckwagon races, get a seat in the nose bleeds, you can see everything alot clearer.

Boleros brazilian steak house is AMAZZZZZING, they serve everything except the salad bar on a sword lol

And we stay at the Comfort Inn but it's hit and miss. Sometimes the rooms are great and sometimes they're not.

South is closest to barrels.

And I believe the chuck tickets were seperate.

There's alot going on at the grounds as far as drinking and partying so I've never actually made it out to local bars.

There is not a particular hotel. I know a lot of people stay at the Travelodge or Carriage Inn across from Ranchmans (bar) because its within stumbling distance and semi close to the C-Train. You do need to buy a seperate ticket for the chucks, but that ticket gives you the grandstand show which is after chucks. I'd plan a day and go to Banff/Lake Louise, in the Rocky Mountains. Its only an hour ish drive from Calgary. Feel free to PM me for anymore questions. I live in Calgary!

Ok, thanks SO much! Great info! Is there a main hotel where all the cowboys stay - kind of like the NFR, most people are at MGM and Southpoint?

Thanks again. I am actually getting my parents a trip for their Christmas present. Is it mainly younger, partiers at Carriage Inn, or people of all sorts? Also, if they were to stay around the Marriott/Fairmont, is that too far to the rodeo? What is the best mode of transportations - I'm guessing the "c train" whatever that is? I'm thinking that traffic has to be crazy during that time!

Carriage house inn is further from stampede grounds but closer to Ranchmans....nice and close LOL too close sometimes! and also close to one of my favorite restaurants in Cgy: Smugglers Inn....they have the most delicious steak soup. If it is for your parents and you want a nicer hotel, I really love the Delta Bow Valley. It is downtown Calgary. Rooms are very nice, the restaurant in there is nice as well, and it is not too far from the stampede grounds.

here you go..the fairmont is close...the c-train is exactly what it says..its a train that goes around calgary....and i would just cab it....the train is cheaper but cabs are a bit faster(sometimes) and easier.....

Is the Tie Down and Steer Wrestling ran from the North Side and the Barrels from the South Side?

So happy to see this thread since I am planning a trip to Calgary also. We travel with an RV, so any close to the action RV parks. Would prefer a place with plug ins rather than dry camp since we will be there a few days. Thanks!!

The alley is the south end, and thats where the roping chutes are too, and that's where we always sit!
If you want restaurants, if you like steak you can NEVER go wrong with going to The Keg, it's my favourite! I agree with the Banff suggestion, it's great up there! I'm not much help for hotels though, but other stuff I might, just message me if you want!
