NJJ...I think that is the one I'm getting a gift of. Which is fine because I do need help in that area of the riding and correct hand placement. But I will probably go to another one later on in July to just help out. I can't afford a week long one with time off of work and the cost of fuel and what not. So It's actually cheaper to break up the "week" and go to 2 instead.

Rausch_Jessica - 2014-12-23 10:54 AM Thanks! I am a little hesitant because of the price, plus there is also an Ed Wright clinic close as well which I have heard alot of good things about him!
id choose ed over charmayne any day of the week....have fun

See, and I'm completely opposite. :) Don't knock it till you try it!
lol....you couldn't pay me enough to go to a charmayne clinic.......

m
I went to a Charmayne clinic.  She's a great person dont get me wrong but I'll keep training with Connie Combs vs CJ.  You won't get saddle sores riding in a CJ clinic.

Yep, I agree with this completely.  I really like CJ but I just didn't get anything out of her clinic.

I LOVE LOVE LOVED Ed Wright!!!! I didn't think he was mean, or rude, etc. He would sorta holler STOP if someone was doing something wrong, but he didn't offend me at all and I learned SOOOOO much. I came out of that one clinic a MUCH better rider and his method WORKS!!!

I can't wait to go to another one!

I would never waste my money on a Team Josey clinic ever again. I'd go to an Ed clinic every month if I could afford it and it were close.

Rausch_Jessica - 2014-12-22 11:49 AM What do people think of Charmayne's? Do you get your money's worth? Thanks!
I absolutely adored Charmaynes clinic. I wish it would have lasted a week. Three days, I was exhausted. We rode, and rode, and rode. It was fabulous. I totally jive with her teaching style, personality, and style. I have a reining, working cow horse, and ride in the mountains after your Dad's cows adapt or die type background, and she was able to clean up a lot of little things that were going on. Stuff that was pretty ingrained from highschool and other stuff I was trying to master and was falling short. I had gone to an Ed clinic the year before, and spent a whole year trying to figure out the hands up style. Can't do it. Loved his personality and teaching ability, style just not for me. My times went through the floor with my Ed clinic, then soared back .5 seconds faster than they were before I went to Eds clinic after I rode with Charmayne. I went from running 2D to running 4D to running 1D. For me, the numbers didn't lie and the money was well spent. I can't wait to enroll in another one.

That's interesting. Guess that's why there are so many different clinicians......they all fit different styles.

For me, Ed's style is SOOO much easier because you don't have to worry so much about bump, slide your hand, sit, blah blah blah. His method makes it so easy for me.

This is very interesting, I have had my daughter to a few clinics but this year I turn 55 so I want to participate in one for myself. It will be a small choices for there are not a lot of clinic here in Wisconsin.

Charmayne is the best barrel racer in the world. She is just in a league of her own. I have been to her clinics and liked everything about it- she is right on and will tell you exactly what she thinks. From what I have observed, the reason some people don't like her clinics is because she uses so much horsemanship that someone with lack of thereof or people not going in with an open mind ready to learn may get confused. I have seen her go out of her way to help everyone but some people are just stuck in their old habits. She will make you so much better!

That is not a correct statement.  The reason I didn't like it was because I got 20 minutes riding with CJ and my horse was still drugged from getting his teeth done and yes I had him UTD on his teeth by my vet but they weren't to the satisfaction of the people at the clinic.  20 minutes with the clinician on a drugged horse does not make a good clinic IMO. I spent more time sitting and watching then I did riding.  The 2nd day you ride with the horsemanship person whomever that is as it changes quite often.

Me and the hubby actually had a pretty long talk about this. And I've got his blessing on TWO clinics this year!!! He got me the Rienhardt clinic in May and he said go and sign up for the Ed Wright clinic in July!!! I'd say I scored big time!!! They are both within 2 hours drive so I won't be killing myself on fuel at least.

Hmmm. When did you go? I went to one of her clinics this last October and got tons of face to face time, rode hard for three days, and there wasn't a horsemanship person. She had a helper that works one side, they meet in the middle, then switch sides.

Getting teeth done with Randy is optional. You don't have to do it, they're quite specific about that. I found Randy to be quite outspoken, and I took him with a grain of salt. :)

I'm sorry you had a bad experience! I learned a ton and rode so much each day! I'm thinking she may have overhauled her system since then.

I hope to heck she did overhaul her clinics.  I went to one in MN and my buddy Timber Creek went to one in eastern WY or western SD I can't remember which.  Both clinics were run the same.

Mine was in western SD. I hope she did overhaul her clinics cause I just didn't get a lot out of it. Not much time with her either. She is an amazing barrel racer and I really like her a lot but didn't jive with her clinic. With Connie you get tons of riding time-lots of horsemanship and you work every step of the pattern.  I went to an LL clinic once too and that was really awesome.
Posting from a kindle fire and it keeps changing horsemanship to librarianship. Good grief.
